Arts & Culture
The Mayo County Council Arts Service provides support to artists, writers, musicians, dramatists, dancers, community arts workers and arts organisations working in Mayo.

Environment
The Environment Section of the Mayo County Council is responsible for maintaining and improving the quality of life of the people of Mayo. They are very busy looking after the Beaches and Swimming pools, Rubbish Collection, promoting recycling and a cleaner community.

Fire Service
Mayo County Council Firemen have the largest area in the country to cover. The firemen and women deal with about 1500 fires, accidents and rescues every year. They are highly trained and always do their best to protect us. Every year in October they invite us to the Fire Station to see how everything works and to tell us how to prevent fire.

Housing
The Housing Section of Mayo County Council ensures that the people of Mayo have a home to live in. It is also responsible for maintaining the upkeep of all the Council houses in the County.

Library
The library service is one of the most widely used of Mayo County Council services. Every year around half a million books, tapes, cds and DVDs are borrowed throughout the county. Apart from lending books and other items, the library also provides access to the Internet, has a huge collection of information which helps people doing projects and research, organises storytime sessions and visits from famous writers and supplies books to every national school in the county.

Motor Tax
The Motor Tax Section of Mayo County Council issues all the driving licences for the county and also issues tax discs for all the vehicles in Mayo.

Planning
The Planning Section makes the decisions on all the planning applications received by Mayo County Council on whether the houses can be built or not and if they improve the area for everybody living there.

Roads
The Roads Section maintains all the roads in the county and builds new roads too. They try to keep the roads safe by keeping the potholes filled and by putting salt on them when the roads are frosty.
