Minutes of the Project Monitoring Committee Meeting held on 14th October 2009 at the Corrib Gas Terminal Site, Bellanaboy at 11:00am

As the Chairman, Mr. D. Mahon was unavoidably absent, his apologies were tendered to the Committee by Mr. P. Hynes who chaired the meeting.

 

1.         Minutes

In relation to the Minutes of the Meeting held on 16th September, 2009, two clarifications were pointed out in relation to Item No. 4 and Item No. 7.  These amendments were noted and the Minutes were then approved, having been proposed by Mr. McKeever and seconded by Mr. Costello.

 

2.         Matters arising

 

There were no matters arising.

 

3.         Water Quality – Carrowmore Lake

 

Mr. Walsh updated the meeting regarding the continued monitoring of the surface

water in and around the Bellanaboy site, and confirmed that there was little change from last months results.  Summaries of the most recent results were circulated at the meeting and are available on the Mayo County Council Website www.mayococo.ie.

 

 

4.                  Updates

 

Roadworks/Transportation

Mr. Walsh informed the meeting that deliveries of abnormal loads have been completed, and that works on R314 and L1202 have been completed, and maintenance and repair work to damaged sections of pavements on haul routes were underway involving an investment of €750K.

 

Bord na Móna

Mr. Cosgrove reported that eight of twelve staff working on health and safety and tidy up at the Bord na Móna site, had ceased employment.  The site was compliant with no complaints or incidents since the last meeting and the circulated report is available on the Mayo County Council Website www.mayococo.ie

 

 

5.                  Update on Terminal

 

Mr. Butler informed the meeting that work at the terminal site was continuing with 85% of the work complete.  Ongoing live testing was taking place.  A site tour had been arranged following the meeting. 

 

 

6.         Environmental Issues

Mr. Tony Doyle highlighted the main points in his report on environmental issues at the Bellanaboy Site.  He noted that the car pooling incentivisation scheme which was introduced on site had a positive impact with 30% less cars on site.  A copy of Mr. Doyle’s report is available on www.mayococo.ie

 

The appropriate regime for environmental monitoring over the next quarter or two as the construction phase was nearing completion was discussed.  It was agreed that the developer would submit a comprehensive close out report on the construction impact on the environment by the end of the year. 

 

 

7.         Community Fund

 

Mr. Walsh presented a report on the four community projects undertaken with before and after pictures of the projects included in the report.  All four projects were very successful and welcomed in the community.  Mr. Hughes noted that the Glencullen River was badly impacted by floods in 1975 and the damage had never been rectified until now.  Mr. Hynes thanked everyone involved with the community projects.

 

8.                  Local issues

 

There were no local issues for discussion.

 

9.            Any other business

It was agreed to hold the next meeting of the PMC in Castlebar on 25th November, 2009 at 11:00am.
