1. Minutes
The Minutes of the Project Monitoring Committee Meeting held on 13th February, 2008 and already circulated, were approved having been proposed by Mr. Gerard Mc Donnell and seconded by Mr. Gerry Costello.
2. Matters arising
There were no matters arising.
3. Water Quality – Carrowmore Lake
Mr. K. Lynn updated the meeting on the position regarding the water quality of Carrowmore Lake as set out in report and summary of analysis circulated to the meeting – copy of which is available on the Mayo County Council’s website – www.mayococo.ie
Ms. Mc Laverty queried whether there is issue regarding aluminium levels as a recent publication in a newspaper ran a story on this and she wished to keep their communications department updated. Mr. Hynes informed the meeting that there has been no exceedance in aluminium levels in the Erris public water over the past year. The Carrowmore Lake is the most closely monitored water source in Mayo and the quality of water in the Erris PWS complies with standards set down in EU Directives.
There were no further items raised relating to the water quality of Carrowmore Lake.
4. Updates:
· Roadworks/Transportation
Mr. K. Lynn indicated that deliveries of heavy/long loads are continuing.
Works on the L1202 & R314 are due to commence this week.
· Bord na Móna
Mr. R. Cosgrove confirmed that all is in order and that Bord na Móna has received no complaints.
5. Update on Terminal
Mr. B. Butler outlined the position on works undertaken and also the outlook for February 2008 onwards at the Bellanaboy Bridge Site as set out in report dated 16th April circulated to the meeting - copy of which is available on www.mayococo.ie Mr. Costello outlined the position on environmental issues at the Bellanaboy Site as set out in the report dated 16th April circulated and also available on www.mayococo.ie .
6. Environmental Issues

7. Community Fund
Mr. K. Lynn informed the meeting of the current position regarding the Community Fund as set on in report available on www.mayococo.ie .
Mr. G. Mc Donnell confirmed that the Bangor Angling Scheme, which has been allocated a budget of €185,000 under this fund, are in the final stages of preparing the planning application and that this will be presented to the Club prior to submission.
8. Local Issues
v Mr. G. Mc Donnell complimented Shell on the employment of local people and asked this to continue and increase where possible.
v Mr. R. Cosgrove informed the meeting of a fire in February which was suspiciously close to the site boundary.
Garda J. Gill advised that there was nothing suspicious found following investigations.
9. International Peatland Conference
Dr. Catherine Farrell gave a short presentation to the committee regarding the International Peatland Conference which is taking place in the Tullamore Court Hotel from 9-13th June, 2008. The conference is attracting 650 delegates from all over Europe with 50 taking a 3 day trip around Mayo. Mr. D. Strong circulated the Itinerary and welcomed all to the conference if interested.
10. Any other business
Sympathies were extended to Mr. Dick McKeever and his family, on their recent bereavement.
It was agreed to hold the next meeting of the PMC at Aras an Chontae, Castlebar on Wednesday 14th May at 11am.
