Minutes of the Project Monitoring Committee Meeting held on 9th July 2008 at the Corrib Gas Terminal Site, Bellanaboy, at 11.00am.

1.         Minutes

 

The Minutes of the meeting held on 11th June 2008 were approved, having been proposed by Mr. Costello and seconded by Mr. Hynes.

 

 

2.         Matters arising

 

There were no matters arising.

 

 

3.                  Water Quality – Carrowmore Lake

 

A discussion took place on the Report on the Findings of the Environmental Monitoring Programme on Aluminium Levels in the Carrowmore Lake Catchment and in the Erris Public Water Supply …2005-2008 – already circulated and available on www.mayococo.ie  


The meeting was informed that the naturally high background aluminium in the area has not been impacted on by the Corrib gas project.  Gratitude was expressed to the North Western Regional Fisheries Board who carried out some of the sampling, results of which are included in the Report. 

 

 

4.         Updates:

§         Roadworks / Transportation

Mr. McDonnell indicated that deliveries of heavy/long loads are continuing with no difficulties being encountered.


Bord na Móna

Mr. Cosgrove outlined the up to date position on the Srahmore Peat Repository as set out in the Environmental Management System Up-date No. 33 – copy of which is available on www.mayococo.ie and indicated that no incidences or excedences took place since the last meeting of the PMC.

 

 

5.         Update on Terminal

 

Mr. Costello outlined the up to date position on the Bellanaboy Site as set out in report dated 9th July 2008, copy of which is available on www.mayococo.ie    He informed the meeting that it is expected to have construction completed by the end of 2008, followed by the commissioning phase from early 2009.  

 

 

Mr. Doyle updated the meeting on the environmental issues as set out in report on the Bellanaboy Site circulated to the meeting, copy of which is available on www.mayococo.ie

 

 

6.         Environmental Issues

 

Mr. McDonnell updated the Committee on environmental issues at the Bellanaboy Site as set out in report on the Corrib Gas Development dated 9th July 2008 – copy of which is available on www.mayococo.ie

 

 

7.         Community Fund

§         Bellanaboy Community Group Scheme

§         The Glencullen River Scheme

§         The Bangor Angling Scheme

§         Bellanaboy Village Scheme

 

Mr. McDonnell outlined the position in relation to the above projects being undertaken under the Community Fund, as set out in report circulated – copy of which is available on www.mayococo.ie


8.         Local Issues

 

In reply to query from Mr. Whyte regarding the Glensk site, Mr. Costello confirmed that Shell will continue with work on the present site.

 

 

9.         Any other business

 

Dr. Catherine Farrell gave an overview to the meeting on the 13th International Peat Congress held recently and thanked all involved for their support and assistance.   She also outlined to the meeting the interest shown in the Shramore Peat Repository.   The Chairman thanked the representatives of the various Agencies on the PMC for the co-operation and assistance in making the Peat Congress a success.

 

 

 

It was agreed to hold the next meeting of the PMC on 10th September 2008 in Belmullet.
