Safe Operation of Motorised Watercraft

Mayo County Council has decided to initiate a public consultation process seeking the views of the public or any interested parties concerning the safe operation of motorised watercraft (including jet skis, powerboats and other recreational watercraft) on both inland and offshore waterways in County Mayo.

Matters that might form part of this process include:

• Prohibition of specified watercraft from certain waterways.

• Designation of specific waterways where the use of certain watercraft might be promoted.

• Restriction on the operation of certain watercraft to specified times or periods of time at certain locations.

• Matters relating to launching, mooring or berthing watercraft.

• Conditions to be observed by operators of watercraft to ensure safety of all water users.

• Speed limits at which watercraft may be operated.
