Mayo Frontrunner Socio-Economic Committee

The Government recently published a plan to reform Local Government – “Putting People First"

As part of this plan a Socio-Economic Committee (SEC) is to be established in each Local Authority area throughout the Country. These committees will replace the existing County Development Boards and will include representatives of Local Authorities and other state agencies, local development and community interests, civil society, economic and social partners. The SEC will be tasked with a broad range of responsibilities in the areas of Social, Economic and Local Community Development for the County.

Arrangements are being made for the establishment of pilot or "Frontrunner" Socio-Economic Committees in a number of Counties including Mayo. Operating Guidelines and Terms of Reference for these Frontrunner SECs have now been published by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government and may be accessed on Mayo County Council web site ( or by using the following link:

As part of a consultation process submissions or observations are invited from interested organisations, groups or individuals, regarding the priorities, areas of focus and potential membership of the Mayo Socio-Economic Committee.

Submissions should be forwarded to the Director of Services, Community and Integrated Development, Mayo County Council, or by Email to: on or before Wednesday, 7th August 2013.

John Mc Hale,

A/County Secretary,
