West Region Outdoor Recreation Strategy

The West Regional Authority has commenced the preparation of an Outdoor Recreation Strategy for the West Region in co-operation with the four Local Authorities in its functional area, namely, Galway County Council, Galway City Council, Mayo County Council and Roscommon County Council.

It is recognised that the West Region has an abundance of existing Outdoor Recreation facilities as well as the potential for significant future development in this area. The focus area of the Strategy will encompass the administrative areas of Galway City and County, Mayo and Roscommon, and the strategy will examine all outdoor recreation/sporting activities (excluding those which take place on confined courses or pitches specifically designed and constructed for those activities).

A pre-draft Briefing Document has been prepared and will be widely available at County & City Council offices and public libraries in the region, as well as on www.wra.ie, or you can phone (091) 563842 to request a copy of the document. To view the briefing document please click on these links

To guide and inform the initial drafting process, submissions are requested from interested parties regarding this strategy. We would like to hear your views on the key issues involved in order to best develop, enhance, and promote Outdoor Recreation in the West Region.

Written submissions may be made electronically to westrega@eircom.net  or by post to The West Regional Authority, 1st Floor, Woodquay Court, Galway, no later than Friday 20th December, 2014.
