Mayo County Council would like to confirm the appointment of Councillor Blackie K. Gavin as Cathaoirleach of the Council for the coming year

Mayo County Council would like to confirm the appointment of Councillor Blackie K. Gavin as Cathaoirleach of the Council for the coming year.

Councillor Gavin has served as a Public Representative for the past 24 years.   He was first elected to the old Castlebar Urban District Council in 1994 and continued to serve on Castlebar Town Council until its abolition in 2014.   He was elected to Mayo County Council in 2009.

 Speaking at the Annual Meeting of Mayo County Council, the new Cathaoirleach outlined his commitment to promoting Mayo and his particular interest in Ireland West Airport Knock, Mayo University Hospital and the future of the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology Mayo Campus based in Castlebar.

Welcoming his appointment, Chief Executive Mr. Peter Hynes said  -

“This is a very proud day for Councillor Gavin and his entire family.   We look forward to working with him in the year ahead”.
