Planning: Role of the Planning Section

Role of the Planning Section

The planning section is responsible for all planning decisions made in the County outside of the three town administrative areas.

Essentially, the Planning and Forward Planning Sections draft overall development strategies for the County which are inline with national plans and major developments, such as roads. These strategies together with Irish law determine under what conditions development in the County may take place. Council planning decisions may be appealed to An Bord Pleanála by interested parties.
