Mayo County Council invites artists to register interest in a public art commission associated with the N5 Charlestown Bypass, The project is being commissioned by Mayo County Council on behalf of the National Roads Authority, and funded by the Department of Transport under the Percent for Art Scheme.
The town of Charlestown is located in East Mayo at the intersection of two National Primaries, the N5 and the N17.The N5 is an important route on the East/West Strategic Road Corridor linking Mayo with Dublin and the east of the country, while the N17 route is part of the Atlantic Corridor linking Letterkenny, Sligo, Galway, Limerick, Cork and Waterford. The site will require a site-specific sculptural work which reflects innovative contemporary art practice in the public realm taking into account the social, physical and cultural context of the built environment. The Budget for this commission is €56,000
The competition will be held in two stages, the first stage will be anonymous. Proposal fees will be paid to short-listed artists at stage 2 for bona-fida submissions.
