The Arts Office administers grants for both professional and non-professional artists across all art forms.
Applications are assessed by independent, external, expert panels.
Mayo County Council Arts Acts Grants are advertised in the local press in April of each year. Arts Grants are awarded to groups and individuals who satisfy the policies of the Council in relation to the development of the Arts in the County in relation to the development of the Arts in the Country.
This scheme assists young artists, across a variety of disciplines, to continue their education. The bursaries are awarded for courses leading to recognised certification.
Every year, two artists are selected by open competition to spend two weeks in residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Annaghmakerrig pursuing their own work. Bursaries have been awarded to writers, visual artists, composers and musicians.
Applications may be made through the Arts Office for an annual award of €1,270 to an amateur drama group. An extra award may be given for drama which is inclusive of the local community and works with the community in a developmental way.
Visual artists can apply to the Arts Office for awards in support of exhibition assistance and materials.
The Arts Office offers certain financial guarantees to selected theatre groups or venues hosting touring theatre, in the event that they record a loss at the end of a production run. A written agreement is required in advance of the event.
