Projects in 2010

Mayo County Council Arts Office supported International Day of persons with Disabilities through the provision of support for arts projects/events in Mayo which included a variety of groups of people with disabilities. In celebration of International Day of Persons with disabilities, there were events in Ballina,Westportand Castlebar. These included;

  • A music and drama project facilitated by artists Niamh Mc Grath, drama facilitator andMary Curranmusician with a group of disabled people from the Ridgepool Training Centre Ballina. The project culminated in a performance to an invited audience at Ballina Arts Centre.
  • A screen-printing training course for members of the Carrowbeg Artists Collective facilitated by artist Caroline Masterson at the Custom House Studios. This lead to an exhibition in the Custom House.
  • An interactive arts workshop in clay, weaving and painting facilitated by Mayo Arts Squad with disabled adults from the Irish Wheelchair Association, Castlebar, the Luisne project, Ballinrobe and the National Learning Network, Castlebar at the Arts Squad Building.
  • A participatory visual arts workshop facilitated by artists Denise Clarke, Caitriona Gillespie, Claire DeBarry, Kate McKeown and Breda Burns with students from St Bríds school, Castlebar at the Linenhall Arts Centre.
