Projects Funded in 2011

In 2011, The Arts Office supported International Day of Persons with Disabilities through the provision of support for arts projects/events in Mayo which included events in Ballina,Westport, Castlebar, Belmullet, Ballycastle and Ballinrobe. These included;

  • A series of twelve visual arts workshops culminating in an exhibition, facilitated by artist Claire Griffin with members of Western Care association, Erris.
  • A 12 week theatre project culminating in the performance of a devised piece based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet facilitated by Niamh McGrath, theatre writer/director with members of the Ridgepool Training Centre, Ballina.
  • A two day visual arts workshop in landscape painting facilitated by artist Betty Brown with members of the Beehive centre Western Care Association, Ballina.
  • An exhibition of new work in screen printing facilitated by artist Grainne O’Reilly with members of Carrowbeg Artists Collective, Westport in the main down stairs gallery of Customs House Studios, Westport.
  • The facilitation of two visual art workshops with members of Western Care based at the Connaught Creative Resource Centre, Castlebar followed by A screening of Living Colour an 83-minute observational documentary film.
  • A series of 10 Poetry Workshops, facilitated by Dr. Mary Madec of NUI Galway and Mayo Poet John Corless in conjunction with Luisne artist facilitatorBreda Murphywith members of the Luisne Art Group, culminating in a visual art and poetry exhibition.
