Write Now 2018 is an initiative of Mayo Art Service. This event affords Mayo Writers the opportunity of 20-minute speed dating type mentoring slots with a Poet, a Playwright, a Screenwriter, a Short story writer, a Novelist and a Publisher. Film Mayo Creative Ireland Residency Award in partnership with Ballina Arts Centre

Film Mayo, a Mayo Arts Service, Mayo County Council, initiative, invite submissions for a residency award for an emerging Mayo born or based filmmaker.

The aim of the Film Mayo Creative Ireland Residency Award is to benefit the successful filmmaker in their own practice. This residency award will allow the emerging filmmaker the time to develop new work, dedicate time to research, develop new ideas and to work with the local community. A key component of this residency award is that it has a Mentoring aspect to it, which will support the filmmaker.

This residency award may suit for example, an emerging screenwriter, director, producer, actor, animator, technical crew, those involved in pre or post production or a film artist. This list is not exhaustive, but does indicate some of the possible areas that applicants could be working in.

Deadline for submissions is: 5pm,Wednesday 18th July, 2018

Mayo Day 2018 - Made of Mayo

Mayo artists are invited to submit artworks to be included in an exhibition which will be the major focal point of this year's Mayo Day celebrations. Mayo Day 2018 is happening over the May Bank Holiday weekend, on 5th – 6th May. The selection will be made by Patrick T. Murphy RHA Director. Write Now - 3 Writers - 3 writing forms - December 9th Castlebar

Write Now, a Mayo Art Service and Film Mayo event focusing on writing including presentations and an opportunity of mentoring sessions will take place on Saturday 9th December in Castlebar.

In the morning there will be presentations by three professional writers; Elizabeth Reapy (fiction writer), Eugene O’Brien (screenwriter) and Eva O’Connor (playwright).

This is an opportunity for established or budding Mayo writers to come along and enjoy presentations focusing on three different writing forms. Contact Mayo Arts Service to book a place for the presentations. This is a free event.

In the afternoon there is an opportunity to avail of one on one mentoring. There are three slots available with each of the three writers. Places are limited and if you are interested in a one on one session specific material is required by Thursday 30th of November.

EXCEL 2017 is Mayo County Council Arts Service’s annual celebration of young people’s creativity (ages 13-19). This year we have fabulous events taking place in November. We have a particular emphasis on youth drama and theatre. We have also teamed up with the various Art Venues in Mayo to provide a wide range of arts activities throughout the County. Activities include film screenings, talks, tours, workshops in graffiti, printing and drawing. Tír Sáile Residency Programme – selected artists

Mayo County Council and Aras Inis Gluaire/Erris Arts Centre are delighted to announce the artists who have secured the three public art projects/residencies related to the redevelopment of the Tír Sáile initiative in Erris, County Mayo.

Gareth Kennedy will be working in Carrowteige. Noah Rose and Selma Makela will work together in Belmullet and Joanna Hopkins wil be based at Claggan Island. At the same time Dorothy Cross will also be working on a research project in the area during the Summer and it is hoped a significant new commission will be realised following on from this in the future.

Bealtaine 2017 programme

Bealtaine 2017 programme

This is the twenty-second year of Bealtaine, Ireland's national celebration of creativity as we age – co-ordinated nationally by Age and Opportunity (an agency set up to challenge negative attitudes to ageing and to promote greater participation by older people in society). Bealtaine aims to involve older people in the arts, through expression and active participation. It also encourages older people to engage as an experienced audience for all art forms.

During May 2017 Mayo County Council Arts Office have organised a programme of events for Mayo citizens, including exhibitions, music, theatre, Masterclasses and participatory workshops.

Mayo County Council Tyrone Guthrie Regional Bursary Scheme 2016 Recipients Announced

Every year Mayo County Council offers two bursary awards to artists born or living in Mayo, to enable them to spend two weeks at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, CountyMonaghan. Each bursary covers the costs for a two-week period, plus the use of a studio if relevant. UPSTART: A PROGRAMME OF EVENTS CELEBRATING - International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2016

Mayo County Council’s Arts Service is nationally recognised for its Arts & Disability work and has been leading, supporting and developing relevant programmes throughout Mayo and beyond. In 2010 the Arts Service initiated the UPSTART scheme, centred around International Day of Persons with Disabilities, December 3rd.

This scheme provides support for arts projects/events in Mayo which provide access to quality arts experiences for people with disabilities in their own locality.

This year, six projects received funding through the UPSTART scheme. Each project is currently being developed and will come to fruition on or around December 3rd 2016.

Mayo County Council’s Arts Office is now inviting applications for UPSTART 2016, a programme of arts activities in celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities which takes place annually on 3rd December.
Mayo County Council’s Arts Office has made a considerable commitment to the development of quality Arts and Disability activity in County Mayo. Since 2010, the Arts Office has provided funding for 29 collaborative projects with arts organizations, artists, disability organizations/ groups of disabled people to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
In 2015, events took place in Belmullet, Castlebar, Turlough and Westport. These included collaborative projects between artists, groups of people with disabilities and arts venues in Mayo. Particpating artists were: visual artists Caroline Masterson, Grainne O’Reilly, Roger Harley and Breda Murphy, musicians Mary Curran, Fiona Lavin and Debbie Beirne, poet Paul Durcan working with Irish Sign Language Interpreter Mairéad Hegarty. Participating groups were: Western Care (Erris), St. Anthony’s school (Castlebar), Scannán Group (Ballina), Luisne Art Group (Ballinrobe), Carrowbeg Enterprises (Westport) . Mayo Arts Venues included: Áras Inis Gluaire/ Belmullet Arts Centre, The Linenhall, The Custom House Studios and the café at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life which hosted an UPSTART exhibition. A wide variety of projects were undertaken and wonderful outcomes included exhibitions, theatre performances and an animated film. The UPSTART programme has been imaginatively embraced and interpreted by artists, arts organisations and people with disabilities. It has lead to excellent artistic and participatory outcomes. Renowned poet Paul Durcan said of his reading in the Linenhall “I reckon I have been giving public readings for 52 years but Thursday night was something else - something new and amazing to me and so long as I have a memory I will cherish every minute of it....”
The Arts Office is now inviting proposals for projects/events that will take place in 2016. Proposals can come from:
• Venues which participated in Mayo County Council’s Disability Arts Programme.
• Artists who have participated in Disability Equality Training.
• Professional disabled artists.
• Groups of disabled people interested in working with a particular professional artist and/or venue to develop a project.

Proposals will be assessed by an expert external panel and funding will be awarded accordingly. Proposals should be submitted no later than Friday 29th April 2016. Funding is intended to support any of the following:

• An event to celebrate arts and disability
• A workshop (or series of workshops) with a local group of people with disabilities.
• A performance for an invited audience of a work in progress/ event (film, theatre, dance, music, choral or other event) by a group of people with disabilities, which has come about through collaboration with a professional disabled artist or artists experienced in the area of disability.
• A main stream performance that will be made accessible for an audience of people with disabilities.
• An exhibition/performance by a disabled artist/ group of artists.

A workshop with Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly, founders of The School of Looking, to explore how interactive art is used to investigate science. Focusing on their most engaging artworks made in collaboration with Science Foundation Ireland, Clarity DCU & Curam Centre, NUIG & Landmark at Lough Lannagh commissioned by Mayo County Council.The School of Looking workshop will take place in Macalla Hall, Lough Lannagh on September 24th from 2:00pm-4:00pm. Mayo Ideas Week is a series of idea generation, entrepreneurship and business events hosted by the development and enterprise organisations in Co. Mayo.
