Visual Artists Cleary&Connolly part of this year’s Mayo Ideas Week

Mayo Ideas week is back with a bang this September 22nd -29th with a brand-new week-long series of idea generation that is sure to inspire you. Mayo Arts Service is thrilled to collaborate with visual artists Cleary&Connolly as part of this year’s Mayo ideas week. The artists will facilitate a workshop ‘The School of Looking – learning to love science through art workshop on September 24th.

In this workshop Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly, founders of the “The School of Looking”, will explore how interactive art is used to investigate science. Anne and Denis will introduce you to two of their most engaging artworks, Real Time Rolling Shutter and Afterimage, both of which investigate scientific phenomena through art.  This event will be of interest to those working in arts, science, technology and education and is free of charge.

Anne and Denis’s first major art and science educational project happened in Castlebar, with On Sight, a series of artworks on the banks of Lough Lannagh that explore binocular vision, commissioned by Mayo County Council and made with the participation of pupils from St. Josephs Secondary School and children from Castlebar Foróige Club.

Award winning artists Anne Cleary & Denis Connolly live and work between Paris and Ireland. Their highly engaging interactive artworks focus on perception of space, movement and time.  They are currently developing an exhibition with David Byrne (New York) exploring Art and Neuroscience, as part of their ongoing investigation of visual perception in collaboration with the University Paris Descartes.

Mayo Ideas Week is a series of idea generation, entrepreneurship and business events hosted by the development and enterprise organisations in Co. Mayo. Ideas Week, now in its ninth year, is established as being a collaborative initiative with approximately 30 organisations and agencies involved through-out the years.
