Laying the Foundations: A guide to Youth Drama Facilitation.

One Day Masterclass.

 

As part of Mayo Arts Service's Excel Youth Arts and Professional Development programme, we are delighted to work with Youth Theatre Ireland in providing a one-day Masterclass in Laying the Foundations: A guide to Youth Drama Facilitation. 

 

This Masterclass will be delivered by Dave Kelly from Youth Theatre Ireland and author of 'Laying the Foundations: a guide to youth drama facilitation’.

 

Date: Tuesday 6th of November 2018

Location: Ballina Arts Centre, Barrett Street, Ballina, Co. Mayo

Times: 10-5pm

Aimed at Mayo based/born:  trainee drama facilitators, new youth theatre leaders, senior youth theatre members, teachers, youth workers, actors and artists who want to develop their drama facilitation skills.

For more experienced facilitators, the course may provide new material, fresh approaches to their facilitation practice.

Laying the Foundations Book: Copies of the laying the foundations book will be on offer at reduced rate for participants of €20.00.  When booking your please indicate if you will purchase the book.

Free Event but booking is essential.

 

The Masterclass will introduce participants to the facilitation methodologies included in the book, that guides facilitators through a ten-week drama workshop programme. Throughout the day training the participants will have the opportunity to:  Source new material and approaches to elements of drama facilitation and explore fresh ways to build basic drama skills with a group. The training will also include material from the various drama workshops, planning exercises, discussion and feedback from the workshops. The process will help participants to interrogate the programme from the facilitator’s perspective and gain an insight into how to best use the publication. 

 

Dave Kelly: is the National Training Co-ordinator for Youth Theatre Ireland. He has co-ordinated the development and delivery of Artstrain, Youth Theatre Ireland's full-time Drama Facilitation course. Dave has been Artistic Director of Dublin Youth Theatre since 2014.  He has worked as an assistant director on four National Youth Theatre Productions.  He was the Associate director on the Children’s European Youth Theatre encounter in Cork in 2005. Dave has worked as a drama facilitator for over 25 years working with many Irish theatre companies and organisations including Calipo, Graffiti, Upstate and TEAM as well as the Abbey Theatre’s Outreach and Education Department, The Civic Theatre’s Tenderfoot programme and the National Youth Council of Ireland.
