Bealtaine 2013 – Mayo County Council Arts Office - Celebrating creativity as we age

Mayo County Council Arts Office is once again ready to embark on a month long programme of activity for Bealtaine 2013. This is the eighteenth year of Bealtaine, Ireland's national celebration of creativity as we age – co-ordinated nationally by Age and Opportunity (an agency set up to challenge negative attitudes to ageing and to promote greater participation by older people in society). Bealtaine aims to involve older people in the arts, through expression and active participation. It also encourages older people to engage as an experienced audience for all art forms. ‘I Could Read the Sky’ walkabout arts event in Ballycroy this weekend!

Mayo Artsquad, Dead Good Guides (UK) and local artists have spent three weeks developing an integrated art project in Ballycroy and are now ready to unveil the fruits of their labour in a public event at Ballycroy National Park Visitor Centre this weekend (April 13th & 14th 2013 1-6pm daily). Braving cool Ballycroy winds in week one of the project and basking in the glorious spring sunshine in week two – the artists and the local community are now excitedly anticipating the response of visitors to the weekend long event.

Exciting Arts Project in Ballycroy

Mayo County Council Arts Office was recently awarded significant funding from the Arts Council Local Partnership Scheme to mark Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the EU. The project, entitled ‘I Could Read The Sky’, will see Arts Office & Mayo Artsquad work with Dead Good Guides (UK) and local artists to develop an integrated art project, which will culminate in a public event at Ballycroy National Park on April 13th & 14th 2013.

Mayo Artsquad are using their creative abilities to design a Poetry Tree. We are putting a call out for submissions of inspiring poetry to dress the tree. Closning date for submissions is Friday 21st of September.
