ALTERED IMAGES PROJECT

Altered Images is a ground breaking, accessible Visual Arts Project being developed by Mayo County Council in partnership with South Tipperary County Council and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. The partners will present a new and unique approach to exhibiting the visual arts.

The project aims:

 

  §         to make the visual arts accessible to a wider audience.

  §         to develop an Interactive, multi-sensory visual arts project with specific relevance to disabled People.

§         to work in new ways with two partner organizations in the creation of an accessible visual arts exhibition and

§         to tour the exhibition to at least three regions of Ireland in 2009/10.

How these aims will be achieved.

 

A selection of art works from the partner organisations collections will be curated . The original art work will be displayed by conventional means.

In addition a multi-sensory display for each art work will be developed. This will be achieved in the following ways:

1.       Three dimensional relief models of the art works will be produced

2.       Audio descriptions of the art works will be produced by a professional audio describer

3.       Accessible support materials will be developed – including catalogue, promotional materials and displays.

Furthermore, the exhibition will be staffed by trained invigilators whose knowledge will assist the engagement of the public.  An education programme will also be developed.

Disability equality training will be provided to all staff employed on the project. The Exhibition will tour to venues in Mayo, South Tipperary and Dublin in 2009/10.

This project is funded by Mayo County Council, Arts Council, An Chomhairle Ealaíon, South Tipperary County Council and the Irish Museum Of Modern Art.
