A new course of night classes in Creative Writing will commence in GMIT Castlebar for the spring.  The course runs one night a week for twelve weeks and each class lasts two hours. The classes will suit beginners and improvers. This is a practical course with the emphasis on writing. Topics covered will include what to write about, point of view, setting, style, voice, flash fiction, short stories, poetry, dialogue, drama, critique and markets. At the end of the course, students should have an impressive body of work compiled.Many satisfied students have taken this course over the past couple of years.  Some have gone on to win prizes and had their work published. The actual night that the classes will be held on has not been finalised yet but will most likely be on Thursdays.  The tutor is John Corless who is a vastly experienced tutor. He has an MA in Creative Writing who performed at the 2008 Electric Picnic.  He writes poetry, drama and fiction.  He work has been published in Ireland, the UK, Norway, Japan, Canada and the USA.  He has won many prizes. His poetry is a mix of political and satirical; one critic described it as 'Paul Durcan meets The Sawdoctors.'  His debut poetry collection is due out next year from Salmon.

STUDIO C ( Where Kids Create Art!)  will be holding Arts Classes for children between 4 and 12 years starting the first week in February.

 Activities/projects include : Drawing, Painting, Collage, Mosiac, Engraving, Printing and Sculpture. Classes will be held in centres in Kiltimagh, Claremorris and Swinford.

Creating with fire has a fascination that is both mysterious and intriguing. Sally McKenna has been welding her sculpture for thirty years and still enjoys the process of turning on her torch.   Sally will open the large, newly renovated Glore Mill Art Centre sculpture studio to you. The session is limited to two people.   She will demonstrate the use of an oxyacetylene gas unit to weld and braise steel and copper. The student will make a small butterfly sculpture with soldering techniques.  A photo of a butterfly sculpture is in the Gift for Your Garden page of the web site.                                              A tea break is included, please bring a light lunch. Beverages are provided.  Limited to two people. Cost is 80 euros each. Bookings are ongoing, choose your own day and your own partner.  If you don't have a partner individual tuition is 160 euros.
