RUSTIC FURNITURE MAKING WORKSHOP with Tommy Casby

Friday 19th-Sunday 21st February, 11.00am-3.00pm each day

Create your own outdoor chairs. Using basic materials and hand tools you will make unique and inspired pieces of outdoor furniture. Under the guidance of artist and workshop facilitator Tommy Casby participants will learn to work with the natural strength and suppleness of hazel and willow wood to create beautiful chairs.

Tommy Casby is a Claremorris-based artist with many years experience in arts workshop facilitation. He has worked with street theatre company Macnas and has held artist residencies at the Claremorris Open Exhibition, Mayo VEC Youth Office and Galway County Council Arts Office. He has also worked on the construction teams for the television series Ros na Rún and Killinaskully.

RUSTIC FURNITURE MAKING WORKSHOP will take place over three days from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st February, from 11.00am – 3.00pm each day. Participants should bring a hammer and saw with them. All other materials provided. No previous experience necessary. Cost for the workshop is €90 per person. Places are limited, and booking is ESSENTIAL. Visual Art Workshops for 5-6 and 7-8 year olds with Katy Newman

Four Saturdays commencing 6th March

Get ready for Easter and make a whole bunch of great things as you get into the holiday spirit! Finger puppets, pop-up puppets, beautiful spring flower cups and dough craft decorations, Easter cards and glitter globes, and Easter Egg piñatas and trick tubes to hide your Easter sweets... have fun using lots of different materials to make all these great things for yourself, your family and friends!

Katy Newman is a regular facilitator of visual art workshops at the Linenhall Arts Centre. She studied sculpture in Bath, England and has facilitated arts workshops for children throughout Mayo. She was a key member of the Linenhall’s community arts team and was central to the development of the Linenhall’s Visual Art Programme for Schools from 2003-2007. Katy has designed many exciting drop-in workshops for our RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Festival for several years now.

ALL ABOUT EASTER Visual Art Workshops for children take place over four Saturdays commencing March 6th (continuing March 13th, 20th and 27th). Workshop times are 11.00am-12.30pm for 5-6 year olds, and 1.00pm-2.30pm for 7-9s. Cost per head is €25. Places are limited and booking is ESSENTIAL.

8 week course, Art Sessions will include Paper Mache, Japanese scrolls, paper marbling, painting, sculpture, printing, engraving, and much more. Suitable for 4 to 12 year olds, every Monday from February 1st , 4pm to 5.15 pm,

Learn How to Draw with Anna O’Connell

8 week course for beginners and intermediate, basic drawing skills from real life and Photos using sketch books and pencils, every Wednesday from February 3rd, 12pm to 2 pm.

Printmaking/Etching Workshops

An Introduction to etching, dry point and carborundum with an exploration of overprinting facilitated by Marianne Heemskerk. The aim of the etching course is to introduce students to the printmaking technique of etching using dry point and carborundum. The course runs over three Saturdays, the 13th, 20th and 27th February from 10.30am -3.30pm. Fee €75.

Students will work from their own designs and no previous experience is necessary.

BOUFFON WORKSHOP taught by PHILIPPE GAULIER, Dublin 6-10 April 2010

World renowned clown and acting teacher Philippe Gaulier will teach a Bouffon Workshop in Dublin, the week just after Easter, from Tuesday 6 till Saturday 10 April 2010.

Bouffons have a special fun and a special way of making people laugh, that makes use of the art of mockery, subversive farce, parody, satire.

Early booking is recommended as places are limited !!!

Philippe Gaulier, born in Paris in 1943 studied at the Ecole Jaques Lecoq from 1968 to 1970. Subsequently he worked there as a teacher for 9 years. In 1980 he founded his own theatre-school in Paris. He moved the school to London in 1991 to return to Paris in 2002. Philippe Gaulier toured the world as a clown together with Pierre Byland. He is busy directing and writing and has taught masterclasses in nearly all of Europe, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, Argentinia, Brazil, Japan, Hongkong, USA and Canada. He frequently works with the Cirque du Soleil.

DATES: starting on Tuesday 6 April 2009, ending on Saturday 10 April 2010.

VENUE: Studio 1, Dancehouse, Liberty Corner, Foley Street, Dublin 1.

WORKSHOP FEE:  390€ if you register early, by January 15th 2009. 430€

if booked afterwards.

Stagewise 2010 - Ireland’s Leading Residential Performing Arts Course.

Stagewise is Ireland’s leading residential performing arts course ideal for young people aged 12-18 who have an interest in exploring the world of performing arts. Held annually at the Kings Hospital School in Lucan, it provides an opportunity to develop a range of performance skills including acting, dancing, singing, comedy, mime, and improvisation. In addition the work will also focus on scripts reflecting the demands of Leaving & Junior Certificate programmes.

Since its launch in the early 1990's Stagewise has helped thousands of young people develop their confidence, creativity and communication skills. Now firmly established, it has become an annual summer event with a well earned reputation as a well-organised and thoroughly enjoyable week.

During the course each participant will get a taste of what it is like to train for a career in the performing arts world working with some of the industry’s top tutors from both Ireland and internationally. Work begins each day at 9:30am and continues with breaks for meals until 8:30pm. Every evening there is a supervised social programme which includes a varied range of social, sports and leisure activities.
