The Grocer’s Son (Le Fils de l'Épicier)

Tuesday 19th January @ 8.00pm

France  2008  96mins  French with English subtitles

Director: Eric Guirado.  Starring: Nicolas Cazalé, Clotilde Hesme, Jeanne Goupil, Daniel Duval

A French summertime idyll, this second film from director Eric Guirado is touching and honest, with a genuine eye for character and the small battles of everyday life. Antoine, a 30 year-old grocer’s son unwillingly returns to his village of birth to run the family shop after his father has a heart attack. Accompanying him is his ‘friend’, Claire, a bubbly and pretty girl from the city who feels she could use some peace and quiet in the country to prepare for her upcoming exams. Guirado takes a rather less predictable route with this boy-girl scenario, an approach that makes for a moving coming-of-age story, ultimately delivering a quiet delight.  Adm.: Film Club membership
