Printmaking workshops for Adults at Ballina Arts Centre

Saturdays 16th, 23rd & 30th January.

Ballina Arts Centre will present a series of Printmaking workshops for adults under the guidance of Marianne Heemskerk.

The series of workshops will concentrate on techniques of drypoint and carborundum on aluminium plates. Participants will be working from their own designs and experimenting with the processes and colours. No previous experience required. These are full day workshops.

Times: 10.30am-3.30pm (with a break for lunch)

Ticket price: €60 / €55 (concession rate). Price includes materials.

Pre-booking for all workshops is essential.

INTRODUCTION TO STAGE LIGHTING with Oisín Herraghty

Saturdays commencing 23rd January, 3.30pm-5.00pm

This workshop series offers participants an introduction to stage lighting, starting with the basic stage lights and gels. You’ll learn how to wash a stage in colour and get a basic introduction to lighting design. Oisín will guide you through the basics of lighting control from dimmer boards to intelligent lights. Throughout the workshops you’ll also be receiving tips on Health and Safety in relation to the stage lighting context. Lights are a huge part of every stage production. Prepare yourself for an insight into the world of a stage lighting technician.

Oisín Herraghty has many years experience in stage lighting. He started at a young age with the simple but important task of "footing the ladder", and has since reached lofty heights of award winning Lighting Designer. His lighting credits include musicals, pantos and stage performances too numerous to mention and all the productions of DoYou Playhouse. He is a key member of staff at the Linenhall Arts Centre.

TERRIFIC TWOS Visual Art Playground for 2 year olds

From Friday 22nd Jan (for four weeks) and Saturday 23rd Jan (for four weeks)

Back by popular demand! A paint-and-make playground for 2-year olds to explore with a parent, guardian or teenage sibling, including painting, drawing, glue and glitter, sand art, collage, chalk and lots more, in a safe environment under the direction of artist and teacher Lucy Hill.

Lucy Hill is a Newport based painter who studied painting in Cork, Dublin and Barcelona. Her work has been exhibited throughout the country and she has been the recipient of numerous awards, public art commissions and residencies. Lucy has a keen interest in visual art education for the very young, and over the last number of years she has been developing her ever-popular art workshops for two-year-olds here at the Linenhall Arts Centre. Her workshops exude an air of happy and calm playfulness in an environment where children are free to explore artistic materials as they please.

TERRIFIC TWOS runs over four weeks. There are two options to choose from:

Fridays 11.00am-12noon commencing Friday 22nd Jan or

Saturdays 11.00am-12.00pm commencing Saturday 23rd Jan

ART PLAY Visual Art Workshops for 3-4 year olds

From Saturday 23rd Jan (for four weeks)

Art Play is an exciting and fun-packed series of art workshops for 3-4 year olds. Children get to make their own creative decisions and choose from a wide variety of materials, exploring colour and texture along the way. The workshops are under the direction of artist and teacher Lucy Hill. (For more information about Lucy see Terrific Twos above.)

THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE DRAMA WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS

with Donna Ruane

Wednesdays 8.00pm-9.30pm, commencing 27th January

Here’s your chance to get your teeth into the work of one of Ireland’s leading contemporary playwrights in a very hands-on way! In a series of five informal, fun-filled workshops facilitator Donna Ruane, will guide you through Martin McDonagh’s play The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Participants will work with this script and do some role building work based on the characters in the piece. On the fourth night of the series you will attend London Classic Theatre’s performance of the play at the Linenhall, which will be analysed and critiqued on the final night.

Actor, director and workshop facilitator Donna Ruane has many years of experience in the field of drama. She has acted both on film and on stage, and has facilitated numerous workshops at the Linenhall for both adults and children. She directs the acclaimed Castlebar based youth theatre group Do You Playhouse. 

The Beauty Queen of Leenane Drama Workshops for adults take place over five Wednesday nights commencing January 27th from 8.00pm-9.30pm (continuing February 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th). Cost per head for the workshop series is €45 and includes admission to London Classic Theatre’s performance of The Beauty Queen of Leenane at the Linenhall. The Lina Stein Millinery Workshop Winter Program 2009/2010

Lina Stein Millinery is pleased to announce the studio's Winter Workshop Programme 2009/2010 which will take place in Rosmoney, Westport in Co. Mayo from November 2009 to January 2010. Workshops available include Sinamay headpieces, feathered creations, sophisticated cocktail hats, felt hats and crinoline hats.
