Conversations have always taken place in the arts and education, but they have often been disparate, scattered, fragmented, isolated. Too often the conversations have focused on what we are, or indeed are not. Often the conversations have never managed to get beyond the meet and greet stage. Sometimes we can’t even figure out which room the conversations belong in.
Creating Conversations is an attempt to connect the conversations, question the practices, explore the ideologies and influence the policies and practices of the future. It is an effort by the staff of the department to publicly engage with and address the principles and practices within the arts and education through presentations, discussions and workshops. This engagement as a part of the community of arts and education, is at the heart of the future direction of the department. Speakers include Martin Drury, Eina Mchugh,Orla Kenny

A new publication from Create and the Arts Council highlights the exciting practice of artists working with diverse communities.
In the publication, Artist in the Community Scheme: Four Essays, artists - Rhona Byrne, Susan Gogan, Declan Gorman and Ríonach Ní Néill, describe their collaboration with communities of interest and place, and document the work produced through the Artist in the Community Scheme, which Create manages on behalf of the Arts Council.
The book shows how the Scheme has become a key mechanism through which collaborative arts is now understood as a vibrant and dynamic contemporary art practice.
