This workshops series will take a highly creative and imaginative approach to drawing. The workshop will take as it’s starting point ‘The Shape of Things’, Susan Tiger’s exhibition in the gallery throughout March, and artist Noel Hanley will lead the participating children through a variety of approaches to drawing.
Times: 10.30am-12.30pm: 5-7 year olds; 1.30-3.30pm: 8-10 year olds.

Visual Art Workshops for 5-6 and 7-8 year olds with Katy Newman
Four Saturdays commencing 6th March
Get ready for Easter and make a whole bunch of great things as you get into the holiday spirit! Finger puppets, pop-up puppets, beautiful spring flower cups and dough craft decorations, Easter cards and glitter globes, and Easter Egg piñatas and trick tubes to hide your Easter sweets... have fun using lots of different materials to make all these great things for yourself, your family and friends!
Katy Newman is a regular facilitator of visual art workshops at the Linenhall Arts Centre. She studied sculpture in Bath, England and has facilitated arts workshops for children throughout Mayo. She was a key member of the Linenhall’s community arts team and was central to the development of the Linenhall’s Visual Art Programme for Schools from 2003-2007. Katy has designed many exciting drop-in workshops for our RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Festival for several years now.
ALL ABOUT EASTER Visual Art Workshops for children take place over four Saturdays commencing March 6th (continuing March 13th, 20th and 27th). Workshop times are 11.00am-12.30pm for 5-6 year olds, and 1.00pm-2.30pm for 7-9s. Cost per head is €25. Places are limited and booking is ESSENTIAL.
Six weeks beginning Tuesday March 23rd 11.00am-12.00noon
Does exactly what it says on the tin!! A one-hour weekly session of gentle movement and dance for older people in the community will run for 6 weeks from mid-March to end April. No previous experience required. If you fancy getting a little light exercise and learning some new moves this might just the ticket for you. The sessions will be lead by Roscommon-born dancer Catherine Donnelly, who has been running short to medium dance projects with various groups and organisations in the West for the last 10 years. The sessions will be relaxed and fun, accompanied by a mixture of music styles from Johnny Cash to Abba. Wear comfortable footwear.
Creative Movement and Dance for Over 60s takes place over six Tuesday mornings commencing March 23rd from 11.00am-12.00noon. Places are limited and PRE-BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL. Cost for the full six sessions is €30, however participants are welcome to pay €5 on a weekly basis. To book call the Linenhall at 094 9023733
Saturday 17th April 10.00am – 5.30pm
Create your own small round basket in one day, under the guidance of basket maker Mike Kreith. Participants will receive and introduction to basket making, a craft which was once widely practiced in Ireland. They will learn about the use of tools, terminology and preparation of willow. Hands-on work will involve making the base of the basket (splitting the base sticks, weaving the slath and preparing the weave), learning a number of weaving styles for weaving the sides of the basket, and finishing the basket with a border.
Mike Kreith has many years experience making baskets and running basket making workshops. He has studied the craft with basket makers from all over the world, gaining experience in a wide variety of basket making techniques. His baskets have been exhibited world wide.
Basket Making Workshop for adults takes place on Saturday 17th April from 10.00am – 5.30pm (with a half hour lunch break). No previous experience required. Cost for the workshop is €65 per person. All materials provided. Places are limited and booking is ESSENTIAL.
