35 Shots of Rum. Tuesday 4th May, 8pm

35 Shots of Rum deals with the relationship between Lionel, a train conductor of African descent, his student daughter Josephine, and their neighbours, Gabrielle and Noe. The love story between Josephine and Noe is so understated to be almost invisible until the whole gang head of to a concert together and, while they dance in a bar, their feelings are revealed in front of Josephine’s father. This beautifully pitched movie features wonderful performances from Alex Descas as Lionel and Mati Diop as Josephine. Admission €7 (Seasonal Rates Available)

The Black Balloon. Tuesday 11th May @ 8.00pm

Australia  2008  97mins  Language: English

Thomas is about to turn sixteen and start a new school but his main concern is his older brother Charlie, who is autistic. And with their pregnant mother under doctor’s orders to rest, Thomas’ responsibilities are increasing. And when a new romantic interest begins for Thomas, it turns out that Charlie has also become entranced by the focus of Thomas’ attentions. Avoiding over-sentimental or tragic excesses, director Elissa Down’s film is both a coming-of-age drama and an endearing and enduring portrait of a family who ultimately just get on with life, underpinned by a sensitive script and great performances by Rhys Wakefield, Luke Ford and Toni Collette.   Adm.: €5
