The Youth Arts Programme At  The National Youth Council of Ireland Wishes to recruit a Youth Arts Project Officer

 The Youth Arts Programme is an initiative of the National Youth Council of Ireland. The Programme is dedicated to the development and advancement of youth arts in Ireland. It aims specifically to realise the creative potential of young people through good quality arts practice within youth organisations and to develop appropriate policies and activities at local, regional and national level. The successful candidate, as part of the programme team, will contribute to the implementation of NYCI’s Strategic Plan, the Youth Arts Work-Plan and to the future development of arts policy, advocacy and good practice within youth organisations in Ireland. This is a part-time permanent post (21 hours per week). Flexible working hours apply. BELLTABLE ARTS CENTRE SEEKS SUBMISSIONS

Belltable Arts Centre seeks submissions for 2011 from artists working in all media. We welcome proposals for solo and group exhibitions. The Belltable’s 69 O’Connell St site is currently under significant renovation works in both the Gallery space and main auditorium.  The renovated building will re-open Winter 2010. Boyle Arts Festival is now accepting original unpublished one-act plays with a maximum length of 15 minutes from amateur playwrights/directors and actors for its inaugural Brass Shillelagh Drama Award. Five winning finalists will be selected to perform on the night of Saturday 31st July during the Boyle Arts Festival. You will be required to stage the play with your own cast. You need to have your own props. On the final night an overall winner will be selected based on the performance and the transformation from script to stage.They will provide the audience, the Judges, advertising, prize money of €300 to the winner, €50 to the four runners up and the prestigious Brass Shillelagh itself. ABRIDGED 0 – 21: MAGNOLIA  SUBMISSION CALL

Abridged, the poetry/art magazine is looking for submissions for its Magnolia issue. A maximum of 3 poems may be submitted of any length. Art can be up to A4 size and can be in any media. The Irish Youth Choir (IYC) seeks singers for its dynamic choir as it prepares for its most exciting summer programme yet. Aimed at those aged 18 to 28 it is an opportunity to spend a week on the stunning University of Limerick campus with up to 150 like-minded young people, followed by a national tour. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS KERRY BICYCLE FESTIVAL

Kerry Bicycle Festival which is currently in it 3rd year seeks submissions of both bike related short films and bike themed art works for this years festival, which takes place from the 13th to the 22nd of May.

Cycling Shorts - Not the questionable fashion trend of the early 90s, but a night of short films about and featuring bikes, which will be screened in Blennerville on the 14th of May during this years Kerry Bicycle Festival. The selected films will also be screened at a viewing post in Siamsa Tire for the duration of the festival. Films should be less than 15 minutes long, and there is an award of €500 for the best entry. Due to the success of last years exhibition Frame the bicycle themed art exhibition will be returning this year.We are currently seeking submission of all type of art; photography, sculpture, paintings, illustration, audio and installation, which either features or is inspired by bicycle and cycling. Young Irish Film Makers: Calling all Writers

Here’s a chance to get your great short film script made! Young Irish Film Makers in association with The Kilkenny People will be holding an open pitching session for new short films for YIFM autumn/winter 2010 production.

 The pitching sessions will be held on Saturday 29th May from 2pm to 6pm. The competition is open to any writer who wants to take part. Entry is free. The only requirements are that the scripts are low budget (no car chases, explosions or lots of locations.), no major swearing or sexual content, set in or around Kilkenny City, the leading characters should be young people (anything from 10 to 20 year olds) and, finally, the  scripts should be no longer than 10 minutes.

 The pitching sessions will consist of rehearsed author or cast reading on stage in front of an audience and adjudicators. If possible a rehearsed staged version of the script could be arranged with young actors and directors from Dreamstuff Youth Theatre and Young Irish Film Makers. Contact details below.

 There will be a panel of three adjudicators and their decisions will be final. The adjudicators are John Morton (Devious Theatre, MycroFilms), Tom Moore (Cartoon Saloon) and Brian Keyes (Kilkenny People Editor).

 Three winning films will be given €100 budgets (sponsored by The Kilkenny People) in the form of production costs, cast, crew, equipment, insurance, etc., for their script to be filmed by Young Irish Film Makers. All writers will be mentored in developing the final shooting script for the film and will receive writer credit on the film.

 Final entry date: Saturday 22nd May.

The 2010 National Famine Commemoration will be held in Murrisk, Co. Mayo on Sunday 16th May.

A programme of events has been organised for the week leading up to the National Commemoration. Events include:

Writing the Famine in Fiction and Song – 8pm Monday 10th May, Holy Trinity Church, Westport

Brendan Graham, who wrote the well-known songs You Raise Me Up and Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears and the novel The Whitest Flower will be joined by special guests Cathy Jordan (vocalist with Dervish) and Fergal Murray (piano) for an evening of readings and music.

Religion and the Great Famine - 2.30pm Friday 14th May, Turlough House

Professor Peter Gray, Professor of Modern Irish History at Queens University will give a lecture on the role played by religion and the religious during the Great Famine and the impact the catastrophe had on religion in Ireland

John O’Shea – 8pm Saturday 15th May, Holy Trinity Church, Westport

John O’Shea, Chief Executive of Goal, will give a talk on the reality of Famine today and how it affects many countries across the globe.
