 TRADITIONAL MUSIC - Diarmaid & Donncha Moynihan, Thursday 11th November @ 8.00pm

Uilleann piper Diarmaid and guitarist Donncha Moynihan are widely acknowledged as two of Ireland’s finest musicians. They first teamed up in 1996 as Calico, a Traditional band who released two award-winning albums, Celanova Square and Songdogs. The band was one of the most influential ensembles to come out of Ireland, touring widely in Europe and the USA. Their latest album, The Lights of Ranzanico, is a collection of beautiful original tunes fused with Irish and European melodies, and once again demonstrates both creative vision and extraordinary lyrical approach to music, and was RTÉ Lyric FM’s Album of the Month for May. Performing tonight with top drawer guest musicians Christy Leahy (accordion) and Donal Siggins (bouzouki).

“Layer after layer reveal themselves with repeated listening as only the best musical outings do.”  - The Irish Times (****)                    “The Lights of Ranzanico is close to perfection.... an album to be seized upon, greedily devoured or lovingly cherished: a highlight of the year.” - Irish Music Magazine                                                                                                                                                                               Adm.: €15 / €12 (concessions)

CONTEMPORARY GUITAR - Preston Reed, Thursday 18th November @ 8.00pm

Most great guitarists would be grateful to create a legacy of classic recordings, stand-out performances and blistering technique, but Preston Reed has gone much further by inventing an entirely new way of playing the guitar. Welcome to Preston Reed’s guitar revolution and a 6- and 12-string thrill-ride through the impossible and unforgettable in acoustic guitar music, as with blurred hands he taps, tickles, slaps and soothes his instrument, fusing polyrhythmic percussion with emotive melody to create a compelling sonic landscape. Yet this is not guitar wizardry for its own sake. Blues, rock, funk and jazz meet, embrace, interlock and attack to create a musical brew quite unlike anything you’ve heard before. Playing an array of guitars from acoustic to electric to classical, Reeds vast range of explosively original music will forever change your expectation of a guitarist. Adm.: €15 / €12 (concessions)

“Spectacular… a terrific performer.” - Eamon Sweeney, The Irish Independent“Widely thought of as the world’s most gifted guitarist.” - Total Guitar“In a class of his own.” - Jack Massarik, London Evening Standard                                                                                      “Reed's fiendishly intricate blend of blues, rock, country and metal styles ducks and weaves itself away from measurability.” - The Irish Times “True spellbinding guitar mastery.” - Guitarist Magazine
