Six weeks beginning Tuesday November 9th 11.00am-12.00noon

Following the success of our Spring 2009 series of Creative Movement and Dance workshops, Catherine Donnelly is back with a one-hour weekly session of gentle movement and dance for older people in the community which will run for 6 weeks from early-November through to mid-December.  No previous experience required.  If you fancy getting a little light exercise and learning some new moves this might just the ticket for you.  The sessions will be lead by Catherine Donnelly a Roscommon native living in Mayo who has been running short to medium dance projects with various groups and organisations in the West for the last 10 years.  The sessions will be relaxed and fun accompanied by a mixture of music styles from Johnny Cash to Abba.  Wear comfortable footwear.


Creative Movement and Dance for Over 60s takes place over six Tuesday mornings commencing November 9th from 11.00am-12.00noon. Places are limited and PRE-BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL. Cost for the full six sessions is €40. Pre-booking is essential. To book call the Linenhall at 094 9023733


Saturday 13th November, 10.00am-5.00pm

Good quality imagery is essential for artists when making submissions and documenting their work. This workshop offers a practical introduction to photographing your own paintings, drawings, textiles and prints for use in portfolios, websites, etc.

Presented by photographer and lecturer Tim Durham, the workshop offers a step-by-step methodical process to obtaining the best possible results with your digital compact camera or digital SLR. It is about getting the very best quality results from the equipment you have. The course will cover: exposure, ISO, white balance, apertures, depth of field, jpg quality, resolution of images, tripod use and much more.

Tim Durham is a photographic artist living in Westmeath. He has been a practising artist since 1990 and teaching photography since 1992. Part of Tim's work is digitally recording the work of other artists. If you would like to see some of Tim's photographic projects, see his website:

ART DOCUMENTATION FOR ARTISTS takes place on Saturday 13th November, 10.00am-5.00pm. The cost for the workshop is €70, and booking is ESSENTIAL. (NB: places are strictly limited!) Participants will be required to bring their camera (and manual if possible), blank memory card, fully charged battery and spare if possible, cable for downloading images, tripod if you have one, and a piece of art work to photograph. Winter Music Classes

Winter music classes continue every Wednesday until November 24, with the final class of the season taking place on Monday, December 6 (due to holiday on Wednesday, December 8). Singing classes commence at 4.00 p.m. Expert tuition in guitar, keyboard, fiddle, tin whistle and accordion classes commence at 7.00 p.m., with intermediate / advanced students’ classes at 8.00 p.m. Call 097 81079 for more info.

 Drama Workshops - November 19th 2010

 As part of Mayo County Council’s Youth Arts Programme EXCEL, Charlestown Arts Centre hosts a drama workshop for the Charlestown Foroige Group with Niamh Mc Grath.

Niamh McGrath is a Drama Facilitator, a professional actress and a playwright. She has worked with Mayo Youth Theatre since 2007.  Her classes are filled with games, improvisation, storytelling, devising and voice techniques.

Samba and percussion workshops for Charlestown Foroige group with Robbie Harris

Robbie Harris is one of Ireland foremost percussionist and co-organiser of the ‘Big Bang’ an annual event for drummers and samba groups held annually in Dublin.  He has also worked  a variety of community music groups in Mayo.  He currently plays with the world music group Tarab.

Lantern making workshop and other events with Mayo Arts Squad.

 The workshops for local National School children will form part of the Children’s Arts Day in the 2010 Charlestown Christmas Fest.

Mayo County Council’s Artsquad was established in 1997 with FÁS support. They have continued to provide excellent training in community arts skills for fifteen participants annually.  The participants on Artsquad come from a wide variety of backgrounds and work with groups from all communitues, providing workshops, training and street theatre.  The Artsquad also works extensively with festivals throughout the county.

The Ballinglen Arts Foundation is delighted to offer Print Workshops for Schools during the months of October, November & December. Students get to see an Exhibition in the Courthouse Gallery and then get the unique opportunity to visit artists (from different countries) in their studio. There they will see work in progress and partake in a question and answers session. Next, each student creates a drypoint or monoprint which they take home at the end of the session. Also on display are works from the Ballinglen Archive, made by Irish and International artists, in response to a residency at the Ballinglen Foundation, Ballycastle, Co Mayo. Materials are provided and everything is free of charge. Booking is essential.

Printmaking Workshops

Two Day Course on Saturday 6th and 13th November

10.30am to 3.30pm. Two day Course Fee: E50

This course is an Introduction to etching, dry point and carborundum with an exploration of overprinting, facilitated by Marianne Heemskerk. Participants will work from their own design, no previous experience required and all materials supplied.

An invitation to explore your creativity and natural expression through sharing in circle, movement, colour and sound.  Based on the movement practice “Dancing the Rainbow.

Stained and Fused Glass Courses

The Glasshouse, glass studio, at The Quay in Westport, Co.Mayo, is offering two courses in November. A 3 day course on how to make Stained Glass (12-14th) and a 2 day course in Fusing Glass (20-21st). The courses are limited to 6 participants, most of whom will be beginners and the majority of previous participants seem to have had fun! Courses for private groups can be individually tailored on request.
