Excel 2010.  Youth Arts Programme

Mayo County Council’s EXCEL 10, is a developmental programme of arts events for teenagers and young adults across the county. The programme focuses on supporting and developing the skills of young people with specific arts interests, while also providing opportunities for young Mayo people to get involved in quality arts events during the month of November.

Youth Workshops & Masterclasses

Following the previous seven year’s very successful programmes, EXCEL 10 will work directly with a number of groups, including Mayo Youth Orchestra, Mayo Youth Theatre and Achill Pipe Bands and Crimlin Community Arts with specialist masterclasses to support the work of these groups.  The workshop programme this year features drama workshops, a writing workshop and workshops with Artsquad with young people in Castlebar Youth Information Centre, Castlebar NYP, young people in Louisburgh and Charlestown/Bellaghy Foróige Club.

Choral Residency – Choirs workshops and concert

The choir was established in 2003 and is a project-based ensemble of up to twenty-four voices comprising some of Ireland’s finest choral singers. Resurgam has performed in many venues throughout Ireland and also in the UK, and has featured in several major Irish festivals.  The choir has worked with many internationally renowned conductors, including Laurence Cummings, Christian Curnyn and Gary Cooper, as well as its own founder-director Mark Duley.   The group will be working with Gortnor Abbey Crossmolina, Our Lady’s Secondary School Belmullet, Mount St. Michael Secondary School Claremorris, Sacred Heart School Westport and Ballyhaunis Community School.  They will also be facilitating an open workshop for choral singers throughout the county which will take place on November 9 @7.30-10pm in St. Mary’s Hall, GMIT.  And to finish the residency the choir will be performing in Ballintubber Abbey on Nov 15th at 8pm.  Resurgam will be inviting participants from the adult workshop to perform with the on the evening as well.  Booking for both the choral workshop and the concert can be done through the Arts Office on 094-9047558 or 094-9047471 or by emailing
