Music Network is currently seeking applications from Irish and Ireland-based professional musicians and composers interested in participating in Making Overtures 2010.

Making Overtures is a professional development course that focuses on two key, non-artistic elements of a successful career in music: self-promotion and self-management. The course is delivered by Irish and international professional and addresses a range of areas including: media, marketing, finance & taxation as well as local, national and international supports.

In 2010, we are offering applicants three options to engage with the course:

Option 1 Self-Promotion Only (8 & 9 November) Course fee €100

Option 2 Self-Management Only (11 & 12 November) Course fee €100

Option 3 Self-Promotion & Self-Management (8, 9, 11 & 12 November) Course fee €200

The course will take place at the Centre for Creative Practices, 15 Pembroke Street Lower, Dublin 2 from Monday 8 to Friday 12 November.  RHA School Autumn/Winter Series September – December 2010The RHA School is delighted to present a series of exciting master classes, drawing marathons and lectures this autumn and winter.Following on from the success of the RHA School’s past year’s activities, a comprehensive programme has been developed, to benefit artists wishing to expand their expertise.The series offers 3 one-week-long Drawing Marathons, 8 Master Classes and 8 Evening Lectures.Drawing MarathonsThe Drawing marathons are aimed towards professional artists wishing to develop their drawing skills in a concentrated and informed environment, specifically looking at drawing from life models.Marathon 3: November 29th – December 3rdEach drawing marathon runs from 10am – 5pm for 5 days, Monday - Friday. Fee €250 per person. A Member of the RHA or specially invited artist will facilitate each day. Master ClassesIn response to demand from artists, the RHA School is offering for the first time a series of 8 master classes by it distinguished Members. The master classes are designed to provide artists with an intensive and informed workshop in a specialist area, taught by artists with a proven and unique knowledge of each area.                                  Each master class specifies a maximum number of participants so places are limited.  To ensure the professional standard of the series, the master class places will be allocated through an application process. Artists are required to submit by email, a short CV and up to 4 images of their work when applying to do the master classes to                           LecturesEach of the 8 master classes will be accompanied by a lecture the given by artist. The lectures are open to the public and will be held on Wednesday evenings at 6pm, in the Friends Room of the RHA. The lectures are free to Friends of the RHA and to artists participating on that particular master class. Arts Courses at Newtownbarry House

The fully equipped Artists Studio is in the old Kitchen of Newtownbarry House. It has beautiful light from its two roof light windows making it an excellent painting and drawing studio. It has easels, a room with sinks and a separate room for painting boards or still life. It can accommodate 12 people on the art courses. It also has a separate room for lunch and discussions. Newtownbarry also offers B&B with a delicious dinner for anybody who wishes to stay. There are also plenty of opportunities to do landscape painting or drawing around the grounds and parkland of the house.

We are delighted to be again partnering with Irish Times Training to offer one person working in the arts a place on two of the most prestigious executive development programmes available today, for incredibly significant discounts. 

Advanced Diploma in Management Practice : Boston College and University of Ulster.


This part-time one-year programme run with Boston College and University of Ulster, aims to improve the competitiveness of organisations by developing the business skills and personal competencies of key experienced managers and executives. MSc in Executive Leadership: Boston College and University of Ulster

This two-year part-time strategic development initiative run with Boston College and University of Ulster is targeted at senior executives with significant budgetary or people management experience. Further information attached.

The programme is already considerably reduced for 2010 from €11,950/€9,950 (year 1&2) to €9,500/€7,600, but we have a place for 1 person working in an arts role for €4,750 for year 1 and €3,800 for year 2, which is a fantastic reduction of 50% on this year’s fees.

Reduced Rate Irish Times Training Courses 2010

Irish Times Training Courses are offered to Affiliates of Business to Arts at €250.00 whether 1 or 2 day programmes. This is a significant reduction on the costs which range from €450 - €900.

In 2010, all courses will take place at Irish Times Building, 24-28 Tara St, Dublin 2.

We’re really delighted to announce that Everyman Training have re-started their popular 2-day ‘Manage Your Own Website’ programme for non-technical people to develop and make regular changes to their own site. This training has been completed by a huge number of arts organisations in the past, but this new programme is devised especially to give more one-to-one attention. Instead of being scheduled monthly, it’s scheduled weekly, with a maximum of just 3 participants.

The 2 day programme will see you create from scratch a new website, or work to develop or edit your current site, and have it live on the web by Friday at 4.30pm! The course covers use of both Mac and PC.
