This two-day series of printmaking workshops for adults is aimed at beginners and the more experienced. Participants will – under the guidance of Marianne Heemskerk – be working with techniques of drypoint and carborundum on aluminium plates; working from their own designs; and experimenting with print techniques and colour. No previous experience required. These are full-day workshops. Marianne Heemskerk is a locally-based visual artist. Originally from Holland, Marianne has been living in Ireland for many years and has extensive experience in the practice and teaching of printmaking. She has exhibited widely in Ireland and her work is in a number of public and private collections.
Times: 10.30am – 3.30pm (with a break for lunch).

Good quality imagery is essential for artists when making submissions and documenting their work. This workshop offers a practical introduction to photographing your own paintings, drawings, textiles and prints for use in portfolios, websites, etc.
Presented by photographer and lecturer Tim Durham, the workshop offers a step-by-step methodical process to obtaining the best possible results with your digital compact camera or digital SLR. It is about getting the very best quality results from the equipment you have. The course will cover: exposure, ISO, white balance, apertures, depth of field, jpg quality, resolution of images, tripod use and much more.
Tim Durham is a photographic artist living in Westmeath. He has been a practising artist since 1990 and teaching photography since 1992. ART DOCUMENTATION FOR ARTISTS takes place on Saturday 13th November, 10.00am-5.00pm. The cost for the workshop is €70, and booking is ESSENTIAL. (NB: places are strictly limited!) Participants will be required to bring their camera (and manual if possible), blank memory card, fully charged battery and spare if possible, cable for downloading images, tripod if you have one, and a piece of art work to photograph. The Ballinglen Arts Foundation is delighted to offer Print Workshops for Schools during the months of October, November & December. Students get to see an Exhibition in the Courthouse Gallery and then get the unique opportunity to visit artists (from different countries) in their studio. There they will see work in progress and partake in a question and answers session. Next, each student creates a drypoint or monoprint which they take home at the end of the session. Also on display are works from the Ballinglen Archive, made by Irish and International artists, in response to a residency at the Ballinglen Foundation, Ballycastle, Co Mayo. Materials are provided and everything is free of charge. Booking is essential.

10 week course commences Monday 27th September, 8.00pm to 9.30 pm. A social evening of music and song with John Hoban, well known local musician, singer/songwriter who has experience of teaching and working with local community groups worldwide. John who believes it is never too late to learn music will commence with a talk and music demonstration and invite audience participation – feel free to bring musical instruments.
All ages Welcome, No Charge. This project is funded by Mayo VEC and Mayo County Arts Office.
