CIRQUE TROTTOLA – Westport Arts Festival 2010

Cirque Trottola is one of the more magical events at this year’s Westport Arts Festival: an unusual performance, combining concepts of theatre and trapeze, comedy and art. The show juggles emotion and physical wonder, through mime and music, bundles and burdens. The intimacy of the tent enhances the daring of the acrobatics, tenderly evoking the strength and fragility of life.  Vibrant characters ensure this French experience will appeal to a wide audience (aged 8 and over).

The French ‘Cirque Trottola’ has performed to sell-out shows and rave reviews in France and other European locations including Prague’s International Circus Festival, Letni Letna. This performance is a premier for Ireland and is highly recommended, particularly for adults and students interested in the Arts and French Culture. The Circus is expected to run Friday 1st October, Saturday 2nd, Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th October 2010. Cost is €12/€8. The circus tent site is beside the Holy Trinity Church, Newport Road, Westport at the old CBS lawn.  Large groups, including schools are advised to contact the festival directly by email: info@westportartsfestival.ie or tel: 087 412 0176 (or 085 7674709) to confirm group concessions.

This event is part sponsored by Ireland’s French Embassy who has been very supportive of the cultural connection between the west of Ireland and an art form which is highly respected in France.

REVIEWS

‘The artists of Cirque Trottola put the emphasis on emotion rather than on the spectacular, on astonishing with simplicity, rather than with effect. Volchok is a virtuoso balancing act, a falling act, a flying act, suspended in its own colour “ Letni Letna website

‘A curious atmosphere seizes us when entering the small tent: warmth, mystery, proximity and seduction. They tell us their stories by means of acrobatics, balance and swinging trapeze, in a both simple and sophisticated way’. www.catastrophe.be
