Ceol na Locha Summer School takes place in the Gaeltacht area of Tourmakeady, County Mayo.   The event takes place annually and the dates this year are from Monday 8th to Friday 12th August.

This unique week long event promotes the learning of musical instruments, dancing and painting through the medium of Irish.   There are many activities to choose from such as Set dancing, Sean nos dancing, art, accordion, flute, tin whistle guitar, banjo & mandolin, fiddle, concertina, bodhrán and Comhrá Gaeilge that will help prepare students for the oral Irish Junior and Leaving Cert.

All teachers are qualified and well experienced in their instruments.  They join in the evening entertainment with the students and locals in the local hostelries. The classes take place mornings (10am – 1.30pm) in the well known local Irish College Coláiste Mhuire.

In addition, for those who are interested, there is a Farmers Market on the first day, various workshops take place during the week plus a guided walk in the area. At the close of the summer school the teachers and students participant in an end of school concert,   It is a great opportunity for all the participants to play and dance together.

Early Friday evening there will be a Barbeque for everyone at Paddy’s Bar which is in the village. The school has over the years taken on an international flavour with participants from the UK., USA., and all over Ireland.
