Jack L has performed to sell out crowds inAmerica, a crowd of 40,000 nestled in the palm of his hand atIreland’s Witness Festival, and he is one of only a few distinguished artists to have performed at the Glastonbury Festival for three consecutive days. The remarkable Irish singer, who has drawn comparisons to legendary talents including Frank Sinatra, Jacques Brel, Scott Walker andNickCave, is renowned for his exceptional live performances, has seven acclaimed albums to his credit: the latest, The Story So Far, a collection of his best material to date.

From the magic to the mundane, from the carnal to the cosmic, Jack L’s distinctive songs and electrifying vocal style make this a concert not to be missed. As an acoustic performance in the intimate setting of the theatre, this promises to be a very special night indeed.

Rejoice Gospel Choir Christmas Concert

Ballina’s Rejoice Gospel Choir presents its’ annual Christmas Concert. Under new Musical Director Patrick Lacken the concert will feature a wide selection of Christmas classics with a Gospel twist. 

Rejoice Gospel Choir was formed in 1999, inspired by the vision of Joan O’Gorman. As well as performing regularly in St. Patrick’s Church, Ballina, the choir has travelled extensively throughoutIrelandand parts ofEuropeand has appeared on national television.

PIANO RECITAL

Alexej Gorlatch

Young Ukrainian pianist Alexej Gorlatch is something of a musical phenomenon. Entering the University of Arts in Berlin at the age of 12, within a decade he had a trophy cabinet jam-packed with awards, including First Prize at the prestigious Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan, First Prize at the Dublin International Piano competition and Silver Medal at the Leeds Piano Competition, in a performance described by The Guardian as “immaculate in its poetry and aggression”. Gorlatch has poise, power and passion in equal measure, entrancing audiences from Carnegie Hall to the Salle Cortot inParis with his relaxed stage manner, singing lines and soulful performances. Prepare to be spellbound!

Maria McGarry

Maria McGarry is a pianist who brings a deep insight and sensitive musicianship to the music she performs. The Mayo-born virtuoso pianist has received consistent praise from critics for her intuitive musicianship, depth of interpretation and uniquely personal style. A graduate of the JuilliardSchool’s most prestigious programme, the Artist Diploma in Performance, she has represented Irelandat many international events, performing at the Biennale for Contemporary Artists in Puglia, Italy; the European Music Festival in Warsaw; the EU Cultural Week in New Delhiand at the Palais de Nations, Geneva. Winner of numerous prizes and awards, Maria has performed as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Spain's New Millennium Orquesta, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the London-Irish Camerata and the Dublin Symphony Orchestra. Her recordings are released on Lyric fm’s recent CD Hiccup and CMC’s Contemporary Music from Ireland Volume 9. She has recorded for Polish National Radio, Lyric Fm and has featured on RTÉ's The Late Late Show and, as a fluent Irish speaker, on TG4

Eimear Quinn

Eimear Quinn's ethereal voice first enthralled the world as the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996 with Brendan Graham's The Voice. Dublin born Eimear joined her first choir at the age of 4 and at 15 she started formal vocal training at the College of Music in Dublin. A former soloist with Celtic chamber choir Anúna, Eurovision success brought Eimear international fame and acclaim. In this intimate a spiritual night, Eimear will bring her own special rendition of Christmas songs and carols to the Linenhall for a memorable musical experience, blending Eimear's beautiful voice with string quartet and guitar. So sit back and let the hustle and bustle fade away. The Christmas season begins right here, let your spirit be moved!

St Brendan’s Variety Concert The Transition Year Student’s of St. Brendan’s College will hold its annual variety concert here on Tuesday 13 & Wednesday 14 December 2011 at 8 p.m. All T.Y. students will participate in some shape or form with a variety of talent on display. John Hoban

As part of their ‘Singer – Songwriter’ Series Charlestown Arts Centre is delighted to welcome John Hoban on Thursday December 1st at 8pm.  A native of Castlebar, John is a composer, singer, musician and author who has played and taught music all his life in the Troubadour tradition.. He is highly regarded nationally and internationally for the unique and deeply personal nature of his music. He has recorded solo song and instrumental CD's as well as performing on many collaborative recordings.

 

He is also a collector of all types of music, stories and folklore and is reknowned as a gifted teacher who has developed a unique approach to art and music teaching for all ages. His music bridges the worlds of improvisation, experimentation and Tradition.
