Christmas Craft Fair 2011 to be held at the HSE Rural Training Centre in Castlebar

Looking for that unique hand-crafted Christmas gift for someone special, or a present with a difference? Then why not come along to the Christmas Fair at the HSE Rural Training Centre in Castlebar this December? This popular annual fair, which takes place in the HSE Rural Training Centre buildings, will be held on Sunday, 11th December, with doors opening at 12.30 p.m.  (Enquiries to 094 9042127 or e-mail

The selection of items on sale this year includes floral table arrangements, Christmas door wreaths, pot pourri, textile crafts including handmade dolls, cushions and rugs, table décor, Christmas cakes and puddings, homemade chutneys, organic dried herbs, wooden toy products, including cots, clocks and bird feeders.

All the crafts, gifts and produce on sale are designed and hand made by the service users who avail of the day services being provided at the Castlebar Training Centre.  Service users are supported in this process by a team of dedicated staff, whose main aim is for everyone to learn a worthwhile skill combined with a health and social gain.

Speaking on behalf of the HSE Rural Training Centre, Manager Andy Neary Manager says; “As in previous years we have an exciting range of gifts and produce again this year, all of which are unique to the Centre in that they are designed and hand crafted by our arts and crafts programme.”

Mr Neary adds; “The quality and diversity of the range of items is a testament to the abilities of the service users who participate in the crafts programme. They continually expand on their knowledge and skills year on year, and it is a rewarding experience for service users and staff alike to see the demand and interest expressed by the public every year in our craft fair.”

The fair is open to all to come along, and groups who have an interest in crafts or those community groups who are planning an outing are particularly welcome. Tea, coffee and mulled wine will be served during the Christmas Fair, with music provided by the Bata Ōg trad group from Crimlin Community Arts.

The HSE Rural Training Centre is part of the day services being provided in the county by the Mayo Mental Health Services. It is located just off theHumbert Wayon the ring road in Castlebar, i.e. midway between the filling station and theWestport Roadroundabout, and this will be sign posted on the day.
