International Disabled Peoples Day

International Disabled People’s Day

In celebration of International Disabled People’s day there will be events in Ballina, Ballinrobe, Ballycastle, Belmullet, Castlebar andWestport. These include:

Ballina Arts Centre, Ballina.

A series of drama workshops has been facilitated by Niamh Mcgrath with a group from the Ridgepool Training Centre, Ballina. This project will culminate in a performance at 2.00 pm on Thursday 1st December. For further information contact Sean Walsh, 096 73593 ballinaartscentre@eircom.net

Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Ballycastle.

A series of visual arts workshops has been facilitated by artist Betty Brown with the Western Care Association, Ballina.

Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet.

A series of visual arts workshops has been facilitated by artist Claire Griffin with the Western Care Association, Erris. The resulting exhibition will open at 7.00 p.m. on Friday, 2nd December. For further information contact Áras Inis Gluaire 097 81079.

Custom House Studios,Westport.

An exhibition of new work by service users from Carrowbeg enterprises who were facilitated by artist Grainne O’Reilly, will take place in the main downstairs gallery at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday 26th January 2012 and will run until 19th February 2012. Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar.

A series of participatory visual arts workshops is being facilitated by artists Caitriona Gillespie, Claire DeBarry and Breda Burns with members of the Connaught Creative Resource Centre.

A screening of Living Colour, a documentary film about a disabled artists’ collective in Callan, Co. Kilkenny will also take place on Wednesday 30 November at 3.00 pm. For information contact Marie

LUISNE Art Project at the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe. 

Dr. Mary Madec of NUI Galway and Mayo Poet John Corless have facilitated a series of Poetry workshops with members of the Luisne Art Project. An event which celebrates their work will commence at 1.00 pm on Saturday 3rd December and will be launched by an Taoiseach, Enda Kenny.
