Ciall 2011 - Visual Artists Open Submission Exhibition dates: March 2011

Ciall translates as ‘sense’.1st Prize €5,000 – 2 additional Prizes €1,000To quote Theo Dorgan from his book ‘Sailing for Home’ the speaking of Irish ‘forces us out of the language set of the boat. Irish has become an escape for Simon and me into a wider world’. In this sense, together they felt they were the smallest Gaeltacht in the world which took them beyond the notion of a small island nation. Furthermore, it provides them with a different way of seeing, experiencing and understanding the world. An Gailearaí, Donegal, invites visual artists throughout Ireland to respond to the above and to consider the following:- Is there a Gaeltacht sensibility?- If so how is this expressed?Does a Gaeltacht sensibility inform the work of contemporary visual artists? There will be 5 national pick-up and drop-off points: Donegal, Dublin, Belfast, Galway and Cork. Application forms for submissions and venues and dates for pick up will be announced at the launch of the competition on 14th January 2011 6.00pm at The Culture Box, Temple Bar, Dublin. Exhibiting at Turn-berlin

Turn-berlin is an artist funded space, with a large gallery in the middle of the biggest concentration of art in Europe. We are working to find the most effective ways of progressing an artists name and reputation. By introducing a more integrated approach we can be more effective and develop wider opportunities. The intense experience of showing work in a gallery is the best way to have work seen. To get the most from  exhibiting which can be a relatively short event, to include it as part of a comprehensive package gives more considered exposure. Developing a name is the only way forward, it takes time and a lot of determination. This is why many artists are finding new ways of being seen. If you don’t exhibit you are only doing half of the job, but taking a positive approach to exhibiting should include other forms. We are now big enough to be a representational gallery offering a full promotional package. More information on turn-berlin’s long term approach to developing artists is on the following link:
turn-berlin Gallery, Josetti Höfe, Rungestr 22-24, 10179 Berlin, Germany. Deadline: Open
