Bealtaine Festival 2011 – ‘Hearth’ Exhibition

The Bealtaine Festival is a unique and groundbreaking Irish festival celebrating creativity in older age. Join us in Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet, on Wednesday, May 25, at 1.00 p.m. for the exhibition launch of ‘Hearth’. ‘Hearth’ is new and exciting art programme for older people underway in Mayo. It is an initiative which has grown out of previous work that has been ongoing with older people in care settings throughout the county for the past ten years. The success of this work has led to the idea of bringing art to older people in their own homes - people who are isolated geographically or restricted for other reasons. The programme targets rural isolation through the medium of creativity. Weekly visits from a professional artist enable the older person to gain confidence and gradually build their own personal art programme at home. ‘Hearth’ is supported by Atlantic Philanthropies and Southwest Mayo Leader. Come along and see for yourself the stunning art work by local participants of ‘Hearth’. Refreshments and music provided. Admission is free and all are welcome. Exhibition will run until June 24th 2011.
