O Emperor

Thursday 23rd June, 8pm

O Emperor – Paul Savage (guitar, vocals), Richie Walsh (bass, backing vocals), Alan Comerford (guitar, backing vocals), Philip Christie (piano, vocals) and Brendan Fennessy (drums, backing vocals) – have been together for the best part of a decade. The bandmates met while still in secondary school and played together all through college, learning to write and perform their own material.

Specialising in ambitious melodic music, their songs range from spectral, haunting soundscapes to jaunty pop songs. Last year saw them touring Ireland and the UK as guests of Mumford & Sons, as well as gigging across the UK and throughout Ireland in their own right. Appearances on RTE Television’s flagship arts show The View and a slot on the legendary Other Voices music series further widened their appeal.

Their debut album Hither Thither was released in 2010 to critical acclaim, and was nominated to for the prestigious Choice Music Prize 2011.

Seán Tyrrell, Kevin Glackin & Ronan Browne

Three of the most highly respected musicians on the Irish traditional/folk scene come together for a night of great music and song. Seán Tyrrell, renowned for his unique singer/songwriter talents, legendary fiddle player Kevin Glackin and creative uilleann piper Ronan Browne combine their talents on stage as part of the Tyrrell Glackin Browne CD Tour. Seán, Kevin and Ronan have been playing and performing together since the 1980s but have only now (after major hounding by their fans) recorded a CD of songs and tunes.  The CD is “nicely balanced between gentle and wild, without suffering from that modern ailment, over-production - just warm, friendly music and singing.”  Can’t say fairer than that. The CD will be released by Cló Iar Chonnachta in May.

The Linenhall Arts Centre acknowledges the financial support of the Arts Council in making this performance possible.
