Writing Short Radio Drama.

Night Classes, Castlebar.

Mondays, September 2013 – December 2013

A series of twelve two-hour workshops dealing with all aspects of writing short radio plays - typically fifteen minutes long. The workshops will deal with radio drama from concept through to broadcast, including character and story development, writing, editing and re-editing. The workshops will focus on the unique challenges and opportunities presented by radio and at the end of the course, participants should have written a number of short radio plays.

When the course is completed, it is hoped to work with local radio stations to record and broadcast some/most of them. Ideally, students should have some previous writing experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for writers to see their ideas develop into the finished product of a recorded radio play.

The tutor is John Corless who has facilitated many creative writing courses in GMIT and elsewhere, for the past number of years. He is co-writer, with Liam Horan, of ‘The Pull’ a comedy play which is currently touring nationwide with HalfSolid Productions, in which John plays three characters. He plays a central role in the comedy ‘Con Concannon – Emerging Manager’ on RTE Radio One’s Sunday Sport Show. His debut poetry collection ‘Are you ready?’ was published by Salmon in 2009. His short plays include, comedies ‘The Interview,’ ‘Invitation To Dance’ and ‘Special Training.’ He has an MA in Creative Writing and is currently working on a PhD.

The course will run in Monday nights in Castlebar, from 7-9pm with the exception of Bank Holidays when it will run on either Wednesday or Thursday nights depending on room availability. Fee is €150. (Booking is essential as places are limited and booking deposits are required.) Bookings and enquiries to John Corless by E-Mail:
