MAYO SUMMER MUSIC SCHOOL
Mary Curran French Hornist and programmer of The WhistleBlast Quartet will lead a week long music" Creative Orchestra" course . Rhythm, song writing, creative composition and fun will lead to a performance by all participants! For everybody-with or without musical experience. 7 - 13 year olds. Also parents and grandparents welcome if they would like to blow the dust off an instrument and play in a group ! A Double Bass , Cello, Tuba, Violins and percussion instruments will be provided with lots of opportunities to try different instruments including drumming sessions! All styles and possibilities of music to be included – so come along to shake up your musical creativity.....
As well as running and playing in the WhistleBlast Quartet, Mary has facilitated her own workshops for Mayo Co Council, NCH Young Maestros ,The Ark, The Museum of Country Life , Teacher’s Training Courses and her own ‘Bold as Brass’ workshops nationwide. Mary and the WhistleBlast Quartet have facilitated up to 55000 young people and communities in the last nine years through funding specifically for Mayo.

Studio C in Claremorris
Two-day Summer Art Camps at studio C in Claremorris continue through August. All camps are appropriate for ages 5-12. Cost is €20 for the two days, including all supplies and a snack at break. Camps run from 11am to 1pm each day. Book in advance, with non-refundable deposit required. Limited to 10 children.
7th & 8th August – Portraits. We’ll be looking at the portraits by famous artists for inspiration, sketch and then paint our own on canvas boards.
14th & 15th August — Landscapes. We’ll be looking at the landscapes by famous artists, sketch and then paint our own on canvas boards.
21st & 22nd August — Make Your Own Zoo! Create a menagerie of brightly coloured animals in this collage workshop.
Mayo County Council Arts Office is currently developing a new five-year strategic arts plan for the county, which will be produced early next year.
We are actively seeking the views of those involved and interested in the arts, at all levels, within the county. This includes arts venues, festivals, artists, communities and people who use, or who benefit from our service.
