Per Cent for Art Scheme: River Tolka Flood Defence Commission

The Office of Public Works (OPW) under the Per Cent for Art Scheme has provided funding for Create, the national development agency for collaborative art, to undertake the management of Per Cent for Art commissions relating to the creation of flood defence systems on the River Tolka in catchment areas across Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council and Meath County Council. Create will manage an open call for proposals from artists, curators and creative producers for the commissions.

The commission(s) will take place across each of the three local authority sites, with the River Tolka acting as a central connector. Work can include any artform and be achieved through once off interventions, residencies, collaborative projects, inter-disciplinary responses, or time based work. There is also scope for collaboration between artists and for collective responses and interdisciplinary approaches and practices. Respect will be paid to different forms of artistic expression and duration, encompassing temporary, time-based and permanent work (or combinations). Proposals must involve artists making new work as a central aspect of the commission. Curators, artistic directors and creative producers may also put forward proposals. It is expected that the work will be situated/manifest in locations related to the River Tolka in the Meath, Fingal and Dublin City local authority areas.

The total value of the commission(s) is €66,000

A briefing meeting will be arranged for artists, curators or creative producers interested in the commission. This meeting will offer an opportunity to meet with the local authority arts officers, engineers and other specialists associated with the flood defence works. The briefing meeting will take place on June 17th 11am in the Create offices, 2 Curved Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2.

Closing date for Stage 1 proposals – Friday July 27th 2014 at 2pm

See briefing document here

Cork City Council Historic Spine Public Art Pilot Project

This project is a small-scale pilot project that will take 1 or 2 elevations / buildings with vacant upper floors in a prominent location in the Historic Spine area and provide a temporary installation that highlights and animates the building with colour, light and movement.

The project must involve a work being installed on one or more of the following as part of the concept: walls and window openings.

Objectives:

  • To highlight a specific building / building group in a prominent location on the corridor by day and night;
  • To provoke a debate about upper floor vacancy and the condition of buildings in Cork City Centre on the Historic Spine; and
  • Provide an opportunity for the City Council and the artist to engage with stakeholder forums about building use and building custodianship issues in the area.

Budget:                       €10,000

The budget will include: building owner engagement, artist’s fees, production, installation, lighting and electricity

Deadline for receipt of submissions: FRIDAY 18 JULY 2014
