Every Tuesday night from 3rd June- 22nd July
Venue: Galway city
Fee: €150/€120
With the massive rise in Shakespeare productions in Ireland of late, Core offers this not to be missed course in Approaching and Acting Shakespeare to actors and directors. Max Hafler, a well known theatre director and international theatre coach, will work on voice, exploring imagery, character, scenes, story, working with soliloquies and the challenge of playing for real in a poetic style. There will be a heady mix of exploring the text and using the physical Chekhov technique. The course is primarily for performers but is also useful for directors and teachers. Some theatre experience is necessary. Appropriately as we are training in summer, the main play Max will work on is Midsummer Night’s Dream. This play offers you a chance to explore a very wide range of characters and styles within the same piece.
Max Hafler trained at LAMDA and worked as a professional actor for fifteen years in radio, theatre and television. He ran a highly successful small scale ensemble classical company called COMMONWEAL in London. In the last 25 years he has taught all over the world Voice, Chekhov Technique, Classical Text and Ensemble.
In Ireland he teaches the Chekhov Technique at The Lir Dublin, the MA and BA drama course at NUI Galway and he is the Artistic Director of Core Theatre College.
Through the years Max has directed Middleton and Rowley’s The Old Law (own adaptation), Faustus, Waiting For Godot, Blood Wedding ,The Maids, The Human Voice, The Glas Menagerie, Measure for Measure, Yerma, Macbeth and Midsummer Nights Dream.
