INTRODUCTION TO COLLAGE FOR ADULTS
workshop series with Breda Burns
Four Wednesday afternoons commencing March 26th, 2.30pm-4.30pm
From its origins in ancient China, to its flourishing from the beginning of the 20th century in the work of artists such as Picasso, Braque, Ernst and beyond, collage has been a potent form of creative expression, both in it's own right, and as a stage in the process of developing art works.
Join artist Breda Burns for an introduction into this exciting art making technique, both in two and three dimensions (low relief). In the process learn techniques of cutting pasting, planning and composition, using your own source images ranging from family photos to random found images (collected from magazines, newspapers, cards, drawings...). Over the four weeks participants will piece together new art works from already existing and familiar materials, engaging hands-on with the potential of collage.
Breda Burns is a Westport based artist. She has exhibited her work widely both in solo and group exhibitions. Breda has been teaching, leading community art projects and facilitating art workshops for many years.
INTRODUCTION TO LOW RELIEF AND COLLAGE FOR ADULTS takes place over four Wednesdays commencing March 26th (continuing April 2nd, 9th and 16th) from 2.30pm-4.30pm each day. Cost per head for the workshop series is €50. Participants are asked to bring along their own source material (cuttings, photographs, drawings...). There are twelve places available, and booking is ESSENTIAL. Booking and further information from the Linenhall.
ARTPRINT for 8-12yrs
with Claire Griffin
Three Saturday mornings commencing 29th March, 11.30am-1.00pm
We're all familiar with printers for our computers, but printing has been on the go since at least 3000BC. Not only is printing used to create books, it is also used to make some amazing art work. Here's your chance to get hands-on with this exciting process. Artist Claire Griffin will introduce monoprint, collograph, and relief printing, and guide you through some of the clever techniques involved in print-making. Throughout the workshop series participants will have access to the Linenhall's table top printing press and print making tools. This is a great opportunity to spend some time being creative in a real print studio environment.
Claire Griffin is an accomplished Westport based painter. She has extensive teaching experience and has facilitated visual art workshops throughout Mayo including the highly successful Still Life, Paper Cup Pets, The Bigger Picture, and Spooky Spoon among others here at the Linenhall Arts Centre.
ARTPRINT takes place over three Saturday mornings from 11.30am-1.00pm beginning Saturday 29th March (continuing 5th and 12th April). Cost per head for the workshop series is €30. There are ten places available. Booking is ESSENTIAL. Booking and further information from the Linenhall. Tel. 094 9023733
