 OPW: Call for Panel of Art/Fine Art Conservators, Art Framers and Art Handlers

The Office of Public Works (OPW) is responsible for the management of the State art collection, which now comprises over 15,000 works by over 1,500 artists, installed in State buildings throughout Ireland. The collection is diverse and composed mainly of framed paintings spanning from the 17th Century to the present day. In addition, there are works on paper (including individual drawings, watercolours, prints and photographs). The collection also comprises of fine-art pieces and decorative works composed of metal, glass, ceramic, wood, etc. together with historical objects made from a variety of materials. The transportation and installation of this collection is a core concern for the Office of Public Works. The Art Management office of the OPW wishes to appoint a panel of suitably qualified specialist art handling / art transport companies to support this important aim. The National Procurement Service of the OPW will appoint three panels of suitably qualified Art/Fine Art Conservators, Art Framers and Art Handlers.

Mermaid Arts Centre seeks Communications and Gallery Assistant

Mermaid Arts Centre, Main St, Bray, Co. Wicklow

We are seeking an individual with energy and commitment, to support the growth of our communications and the planning and daily operations of our visual arts programme.

The individual will work closely with the Artistic Director and PR & Marketing Manager as well as working with and learning from the whole team of the multi-disciplinary arts centre.

Responsible to the Artistic Director and PR & Marketing Manager and working closely with the full team to ensure smooth planning of visual arts programme and to secure maximum attendance, engagement and profile for all events at Mermaid Arts Centre.

Mermaid County Wicklow Arts Centre’s Communication’s and Gallery Assistant will be a key member of the overall administrative team of the Centre and is responsible for supporting the work of the PR & Marketing Manager as well as supporting the planning and administration of the gallery programme with the Artistic Director.

Mermaid County Wicklow Arts Centre occupies a unique position in Wicklow as the county arts centre. It comprises of a 242 seat auditorium, a gallery and multi-purpose room as well as a busy cafe. The centre is committed to presenting a year round programme of work both on and off stage across disciplines with the priority to creating and presenting work of excellence. The centre showcases the best of Irish and international work as well as engaging and supporting the artistic communities in the county itself.

Role;

- To assist on the development and implementation of the centre’s communications policy and strategy with the PR & Marketing Manager and Artistic Director.
- To carry out research and development work in the planning and co-ordination of the gallery programme with the Artistic Director
- To assist on the building of effective working relationships internally and externally with a range of stakeholders including colleagues, production companies, visual artists, the general public as well as funders
- To work as part of a small team to help create positive awareness of the centre and all its activities
- To encourage the public’s active engagement in the centre and to foster meaningful cultural experiences across disciplines with a particular focus in visual arts

Skills;

- High level of competency in written language, organisation and clarity of presentation
- The ability to work unsupervised and to work in a busy office
- Creative flair and an eye for design as well as a rigorous approach to delivery
- Successful candidates will have some related experience, a good knowledge of contemporary art and customer service skills

Responsibilities are to;

- Assist on the implementation of the marketing and audience development strategic plan as instructed by the PR & Marketing Manager
- Support the planning, co-ordination and administration of the gallery programme working as artist liaison as well as proposing talks, lectures and events in the centre
- Assist on the preparation of printed marketing materials, such as Mermaid’s seasonal brochure and gallery guides, and development of creative promotions and advertising
- Implement research into the centre’s many audiences
- Assist on the maintenance of Mermaid’s website and implementation of the digital marketing campaign also participating in Theatre Forum’s annual benchmarking
- Support the compilation of potential and targeted sponsorship opportunities
- Assist the identification and testing of new marketing channels
- Assist on information, sales and promotion strategies and all audience development initiatives
- Support press and publicity to create and develop cohesive exhibition and show promotional campaigns as well as developing venue profile

Administration;

- To provide a speedy, friendly and efficient service to members of the public and all visual artists by answering or re-directing queries as appropriate
- To assist on all information provision on a timely basis to Production Department, Front of House and Box Office staff
- To provide information as required to other areas within the building as a whole
- To work on any special projects as programmed
- To represent the centre as appropriate

Terms and Conditions;

- Contract & Salary 12 month contract €20K
- Working hours: 30 hours per week, 5 or 4 days a week. Some weekend or evening work as required (time off in lieu system applies).
- Holidays: 18 days (includes Good Friday and 24 December)

The Model Seeks Artistic Director

The Model, home of The Niland Collection, Sligo, is one of Ireland’s most important and innovative contemporary arts centres. Visual arts are at the core of the ambitious programme, which also includes music, film and an active education and access programme. The Model houses the Niland Collection, one of the most important national collections of Irish twentieth-century art.

The Model is now looking for a dynamic Artistic Director who will lead the Model into its next phase of development to create a leading arts institution of national and international significance while developing artistic engagement with communities in Sligo.

The Artistic Director will define and implement the strategic vision for the organisation and, in collaboration with the Model team will devise and oversee the Model’s programme. They will also be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Model and ensuring that the organisation is run to high professional standards.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of innovative programming in the visual arts as well as the necessary expertise to lead and manage a dynamic organisation of this nature.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience

Mayo County Council Arts Office is currently developing a new five-year strategic arts plan for the county, which will be produced early next year.

We are actively seeking the views of those involved and interested in the arts, at all levels, within the county. This includes arts venues, festivals, artists, communities and people who use, or who benefit from our service.
