Engine Room Europe Convention – April 2014
April 2014 will see Amsterdam host a Convention on the future of independent culture in Europe. This Convention, titled 'The Future Is Not What It Used To Be', will take place from the 2nd to 4th of April.
'The Future Is Not What It Used To Be' is organised by Trans Europe Halles, a network of independent cultural centres in Europe, and its Netherlands members, Melkweg and P60 and is the final event in a three year programme called Engine Room Europe.
Engine Room Europe was established in 2011 with EC funding to 'invest in the future sustainability of independent culture in Europe' and is an action research project with 19 projects in 11 countries: Sweden, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, France, Latvia, Poland, Germany, Serbia and The Netherlands. I have attached an interim report here, that you may find interesting. One of the legacy projects of ERE is the establishment of an online Resource for the independent cultural sector, gathering and exchanging peer to peer knowledge that is aiming to be both practical and inspiring.
If you are interested in finding out more about ERE, the Resource and the 2014 Convention, go to the Trans Europe Halles website here.

Call for Curators, Gallerists, and Art Directors for Get Together 2014
Get Together 2014 is now in full planning mode. It will take place on Friday, May 23rd in IMMA and will include the usual wide range of activities that artists and arts organisations have come to expect of the day. Last year we introduced Speed Curating - a quickfire format that allows artists and curators to have a brief meeting to exchange ideas and thoughts about the artist's work, area of practice, and/or career plans. There are 30 places available for curators or arts organisation representatives who wish to take part in the day. Already we have received confirmations from the curators who participated last year and will also bring a number of international curators to Dublin to participate on the day.
We have places available for 7 galleries, museums, or similar venues who may wish to have their art director or curator participate in what is truly a frantic and frenzied event. These places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
To apply, send an email to director@visualartists.ie with some details of your programming and links to any exhibitions that you have undertaken.
Further details about Get Together 2014 will be made available in the coming weeks including a call for organisations to take part in The Common Room Café. So don't panic if you miss a place in Speed Curating there will be many other ways in which you will be able to represent your organisation on the day.
Are you an arts focussed organisation? - Register to be part of The Common Room Café at Get Together 2014
Get Together 2014 will take place on Friday, May 23rd in IMMA. This third edition promises to be even more lively and vibrant with a wide range of talks, events, and networking opportunities spread throughout the day.
Central to Get Together is The Common Room Café. We have a slight change on previous years. As well as arts organisations and support networks, we will have a range of clinics and mentoring sessions in the Café spread throughout the day.
Organisations who have participated in previous years have included Festivals, Studio Programmes, Insurance Companies, Financial Advisors, Legal Practitioners, Artists Groups, Galleries, Multi-disciplinary Venues, Print Studios, and Shipping Companies.
We are now taking bookings for tables in The Common Room Café. The venue will be the Great Hall in IMMA but we want to avoid the crushes of previous years, so we are limiting the number of organisations.
To apply, send an email to director@visualartists.ie with details of your organisation.
Further details about Get Together 2014 will be made available in the coming weeks.
