"Stagecoach Mayo say Happy Birthday Shakespeare this midsummer!"
Stagecoach Mayo, part of the successful children's theatre school network in it's 26th year have confirmed they will perform, Dream On! by Malcom Sircom, the smash hit musical adaptation of A Midsummer Nights Dream which has been re-worked into a version suitable for Junior and Secondary Schools.
Principal Eliz Lucey said" It's simplified so that Junior actors will not be overstretched but is suitable for 6 to 16 year olds" she explained" It's actually the 450th anniversary of the bard this year so what better way to brush up on shakespeare and the song and dance routines will be brilliant fun also!"
Stagecoach Mayo runs each Saturday from 10am to 1pm at Sacred Heart School Westport where children and teenagers train in all three disciplines of drama, dance and singing each Saturday morning.
Each part time school recruits a total of 45 students, divided by age into three groups of fifteen. For the first hour, one group learns to dance, the second to sing and the third to act. When the hour is up groups rotate. All groups are trained by experienced teachers who are professional choreographers, performers, directors and musicians.
The summer term runs from Saturday April 26th to June 28th with an additional bonus workshop involving students from Stagecoach Galway and Clare on Sunday 6th July. Two week taster sessions are available and there are limited places available for the forthcoming season.
The Mayo centre also officially launched their Summer Camp programme with five day camps for 4 to 6 year olds and 6 to 17 year olds running 21st July to 25th July at Sacred Heart School Westport. Open to Non Stagecoach students, applications are strictly on a first come, first served basis and early booking is advised.

Project Title – Applications of Socially Engaged Art
Project Description
The socially engaged arts have been developed in a number of fields as transformative interventions entailing specific forms of arts practice and methods of inquiry.
The combination of artistic and social elements gives rise to tensions between aesthetic, ethical and instrumental dimensions of the work.
This PhD will study the nature and significance of the socially engaged arts as an aesthetic and relational practice, a mode of inquiry and an agent for personal and social change. The precise field will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate but we would particularly welcome applications with an interest in addictions and recovery.
The Psychosocial Research Unit has a wide range of partners who can offer access to research sites for the successful applicant. However, we will also consider other proposals for the empirical component of the work. There are opportunities for paid teaching duties with this studentship
Applicants must submit a detailed research proposal, a CV, and a covering letter along with their application. Applicants should have, or expect to receive a minimum of UK 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area.
