Stagecoach Theatre Arts Mayo celebrates their 1st birthday with a junior abridged version of 'Cats'!

The County Mayo centre of Stagecoach Theatre Arts Schools will perform the junior version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic musical on December 6th in Sacred Heart School, Westport,

'Cats' is based on TS Eliot's 'Old Possums Book of Practical Cats' and Stagecoach Mayo students get a unique chance to appear in the show - in the same week it will reopen on London's 'West End' after thirty years.

Principal, Eliz Lucey, said "We were lucky to have 28 of our Galway students be part of the choir for the 25th anniversary production of Cats at the National Indoor Arena, with 2,500 students from around the world. 'Cats' is a magical, timeless musical with a richness from TS Eliot's wonderful poetry that's quite simply adored by children."

The part time theatre schools educate children and young adults aged 4 to 17 in professional dance, drama and singing classes. They take place this 'Autumn Term' each Saturday from September 13th to December 6th. Classes are divided by age into three groups of fifteen. For the first hour, one group learns to dance, the second to sing and the third to act. When the hour is up, groups rotate. The 'Early Stages' classes for 4 to 6 year olds last for 90 minutes.

All groups are trained by experienced teachers who are professional choreographers, performers, directors or musicians. Stagecoach Mayo has two week taster sessions and always welcomes new students to try out thier classes on the 13th. 20th and 27th September. Registration is then closed until the new year. For a prospectus or a 2 week taster session, go online today to www.stagecoach.ie/mayo or call the office on 091 556274.
