This is the time of year that people start thinking about special gifts for Christmas. Why not consider buying an original work of art? Something totally unique which will give pleasure for life?

An original work of art will enhance someone’s life, provide a unique perspective on the world and be a daily reminder of how much you care for them. It will inspire, provide colour and enrichment. It will be an exclusive, hand made work, not to be found anywhere else, providing warmth and character to any living or working space.

Buying original artworks supports artists living and working in Mayo, a county which is blessed with an extraordinary number of talented visual artists, all of whom have invested their time and creative energy into the county and their work. You can support their vision and creativity and celebrate our artistic county by buying their work.

People sometimes think ‘I don’t know anything about art and wouldn’t know what to buy’. There is no right or wrong here – buy what you like, what gives you joy, inspires you, causes you to think, reminds you of your landscape, your place in the world, reflects your perspective on life.

Where do you go to buy art? Well, that’s another great thing about Mayo. There are so many galleries and exhibitions to explore, all offering a wide range of original artworks at all price levels. If you can’t afford a painting or drawing, you can purchase prints or photographs which are produced in limited editions.

Most galleries operate systems of phased payments and gift vouchers, so there’s no excuse not to check it out. Who knows, you might just find that perfect gift.
