Culture Night 2014 takes place on September 19th and comprises hundreds of FREE events across Ireland, including almost 100 FREE cultural events in Mayo. On the night, arts and cultural organisations across the country open their doors until late with hundreds of free events, tours, talks & performances for you, your family and friends to enjoy!

This year’s event marks the sixth Culture Night in Mayo. Since it began in 2009, the number of participants has steadily grown and this year 23 groups and venues will pull out all the stops to produce an evening programme of unforgettable cultural experiences for audiences in the county.

Last year almost 2,000 people of all ages engaged with Culture Night across Mayo, and even more are expected to take advantage of this night of cultural adventure and discovery this year.  Regardless of where you are in the county there is a Culture Night event taking place nearby with events planned for Acaill, Ballina, Ballinrobe, Ballintubber, Ballycastle, Ballycroy, Belmullet, Bohola, Ceathrú Thaidhg, Castlebar, Claremorris, Kilkelly, Lahardane, Louisburgh, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, Turlough & Westport.

Imagination and creativity are a hallmark of the excellent programmes that have made past Culture Nights extremely successful, and 2014 will not disappoint.  Planned activities include family workshops, films, tours, demonstrations, exhibitions, performances, outdoor poetry events, craft displays, music seisiúns and much, much more!  So get involved! With free events taking place throughout the county and catering for all ages, there is bound to be something for everyone!  Full details of events are available from the following websites: or

Culture Night is brought to you by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in partnership with Mayo County Council.  Mid-West Radio will again be lending its support to the night as media sponsor for the event, so keep your radio tuned to the local station in the lead up to September 19th.  The event provides cultural organisations with an occasion to showcase to local communities and visitors, the wealth and variety of cultural activity that exists in Mayo, while also celebrating the county’s excellent cultural reputation on a national platform.

Mayo Culture Night brochures are available to download at or or in hard copy from Mayo County Council Arts Office.
